Slow Losers - Unite!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have not been active in this board, but I have been reading....

Banded on April 20, 06 and as today I lost 20 pounds. That qualifies me as a slow looser.

I had 2 fills and this last one is very tight.

I thought is may be because I started my band journey at 225 and now I am 205 and may be is because I did not start at 300.

Then I thought, may be is my age, I am 50 and thought I am loosing slow because of that.

So, I think now that I am not excercising enough, I do 2 or 3 times a week and only 30 minutes. Will try that.

Any suggestion?

I am so frustrated. I have only lost 21lbs since my surgery, gained back 8lbs until i got a fill and now it seems like im "stuck", not gaining but not loosing. I think even then I only lost those 21lbs because i was eating or rather drinking under 300cals a day. just Jello, water, chicken broth, mushroom soup.... I know it sounds crazy but i'm thinking of going back to 300 cals a day for 3 months i know ill lose like 50lbs or so..... today i started with breakfest-protien shake 120cal soy milk 70 cal, lunch same thing and for dinner probably a bite or two of white fish....

I have had no weight loss in over one year - I am back on the dieting, yo yo try every diet again and just so frustrated and sick. I'm having metabolic tests now but really feel just hopeless and depressed. I am a failure even with the band. I'm going to my parents 50th anniversary fat as ever with 150 friends of family etc that will see me. I never thought i would be one that wouldn't lose weight. I am so restricted I cant eat solids some days - I eat tons less - I eat like I'm suppossed to and I exercise 5 times a week. I don't know what to do when discouraged cuz i live it 24/7 - you just go on. My boyfriend says - the band is keeping me the same size - i probably would have been 50lbs heavier so there you go - that's something, right? I wish there was someone who could help us that have failed but I've found people don't want to hear about it or be around you when you are a failure. It's a bit lonesome.

You just said what I have felt this entire time. Only the first two weeks after surgery did i glow from happiness...

Hello all, I too, am a slow loser and really disappointed with my weight loss so far. I was banded on Oct 18th and have lost only 15 pounds. I haven't lost any weight in the last month, but I didn't gain any either.

I've been in for three fills already because I wasn't feeling any restriction at all. The last fill was a few weeks ago and I finally feel some restriction but not as much as I think I should because I can still eat more than I should.

I'm making much better food choices, and I eat about half of what I used to eat, but no weight loss in the last 4 - 6 weeks. What the heck is going on here? I'm not exercising as much as I should, but I am very active and usually get in some treadmill time at least 2 - three times a week. I just made another appointment for a 4th fill and will see my doctor at this appointment and talk with him, maybe he can give me some insight as to why I'm not feeling more restriction and why I'm not losing weight.

I am a self pay, so what's really bugging me it that I paid all that money and have not lost much weight, plus I really want to lose more before May because my son it getting married and mom wants to look good for the wedding pics!

What to do when you get discouraged?

I have done the same thing, i was self pay aswell and sometimes i feel like i needed to of gotten the bypass... I hate being in this body and most of the time im so hateful twords myself i will not go anywhere. I was known to not go out but once a month for a year..... The only thin i can say love is be strong. also what has helped ALOT is the spring bootcamp! it is so nice to be with others in my situation. best wishes<3

Going on liquids again will not work, believe me.

Each time that I PB have to go on 2 days of clear liquid, you would imagine I lost some, NO. I think you and me have to increase Proteins and count our calories and not have high cal Protein drinks- Just my thought-

Yeah I bought protien whey powder it only has 120 cal per big scoop and 23grams protien with 1 gram of sugar. I got it at target, i mix it with 70cal lite soymilk. it is yummy. I am doing this twice a day then for dinner steamed white cod fish and a veggie. the fish is only 90 cal. so for a full day I am aiming for 600calories.

It looks like that you are getting over 50 grams of Protein, that is real good! do no go more than 100.

What is the name of the proten ?

Mourningfuneral, don't be too frustrated. I know how you feel. I'm down around 40 lbs since June. I finally have the right restriction and I'm losing again . Seems my body likes to consume around 800 calories a day to lose. Keep the faith. It can get better.

I got so excited when I saw this post.....I have been struggling from the very beginning.....but after the baby....WOW, I have been struggling twice as hard. I know that I have a lot of things that I need to work on. I have accepted the fact that the band is just a tool and I am going to have to take the pressure off the band and do some of the work myself. Easier said than done of course!!!! I am a stress eater, I know that is the main problem that I am having. If I honestly ate when I was hungry, it would only be once a day....

Anywho I hope I am accepted into the group!!!!

Looking to be encouraged and to encouraged!!!!!:clap2:

Robinm---I read your post and felt a connection! I am beginning to look for wedding dresses too! I am getting married in Dec. 07! When are you getting married? I have been looking online but have not actually gone into a store yet. I was recently banded about two months ago, and am slowly losing weight. I am not sure what to do about getting a dress...? Any advice!!

Hello everyone, I have a questions for all you slow loosers, because I am one too. What works to stay on track and focus on moving forward and not staying still. I have been trying for weeks to loose pounds and I just don't seem to be getting anywhere. I eat very little but I know its probably what I do eat. What suggestions do you have to help me move forward.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
