I've been completely excited about this night since I signed up for the info session. Now excited doesn't come close to what I'm going through. This is more of a toss-my-cookies-nervous. that's the best way I can think of to explain it. It's about 3:30 now and the class isn't until 6 (about 30 min drive) and I'm really having to force myself to stay put and not leave just yet. I really want to get this process started.

My ins covers two facilities in the area and the other info session isn't until sept! I really don't think I can wait that long to make a decision on where to have my surg. I think that if what I hear tonight is promising I'll cancel the other meeting. I just don't know. I'm having a hard time sitting still. I'm like a two year old hopped up on ice cream and Gummy worms I tell you.

I had the same reaction when I finally decided where to have it. I went to the seminar, and was very much "Let's get this party started!"

I sent them my health history before they were ready, and then sent them all of my medical records before they expected them. Luckily they had a great sense of humor about it all.

Good luck with the seminar tonight. Go get 'em girl!

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one that this happens to. My DH doesn't understand but he's there for me all the same. The friend I had that was going to attend with me (she had a gastric bypass several years ago at the same center) bailed on me so I'm all alone on this one. Oh well. Should be interesting all the same. Hope I remember all of my questions... they're written down but can't help to wonder if the ADD version of me will even remember them. lol

It's definitely tough to wait for something you want so bad. Use this time though, learn everything you can about the lapband, the good, the bad, the ugly. Find out everything, that way you never worry that you missed something. Good luck and keep us all posted!

The meeting last night was good. Very informative. The surgeon answered all of my questions in his presentation except one that when I asked he was very thoroughin answering. However, they dropped a surprise of a $500 non-refundable program fee due at the first visit to cover misc office paperwork and counseling sessions. Their justification is valid and I have no issue with it. I just wish that they had said something about it on their site so I wouldn’t have been taken by surprise with it. Their site is very informative so it would seem appropriate that they would mention it there. Oh well.

Glad it went well, Vickie. I too was surprised about the program fee I needed to pay (that insurance doesn't cover). It was $1,450!!!!! Thank GOD they took flex spending and payment plan! Like yours, it includes nutritionists, psych consult/clearance and support groups for pre, post and beyond the surgery. I've been there a few times already, so I guess it's true that you get what you pay for. I'm sure the counseling sessions would be worth it for you too.

I guess the think it will deter people from going to the seminar for info if they tell people that upfront? It was like pulling teeth to get the $$$ before the seminar (had to pull the Nancy Drew skills :smile2:)

Lots of luck to you on your journey!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
