Anything Goin on for Missourians?

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd start a new thread seeing what's happening in the state? Anything going on? How's everyone doing on weight loss and fills? I'm using Dr. Malley - anyone else using him? Just trying to get something new started here for us! Share your story with me! I'm in the Kansas City Area - anyone else?

Hey Candysmooch~

Everything is crazy around here. I am to going to have Dr. Malley do my surgery if I ever get it done. Right now it seems that I will never have it done. Today I have to go get my old records from the old office and take it to Dr. Malleys new office. Well hope everything is going good for everyone else here in Missouri!

Cool, glad to hear it! He's a wonderful doctor. Best of luck - anyone else got stuff going on? I do but it's under "its a heart break" in the support section B)

Hi! I am from Missouri also, and used Dr. Malley for my surgery. I had surgery 05/24/05 and have lost 34 pounds as of Monday.

It's great to find someone else in my area with the same surgeon!

I'm new to this site.

I have not been banded yet but the plan is for the first week in December. I don't have insurance so I am having my surgery done by Dr Ortiz in Mexico. I have been to 2 seminars here in KC and I thought one of the doctors did say he did fills for patients that were banded in Mexico.

Does anyone know who in KC will do fills for Mexico banders?

I'm really getting excited about this. Part of my family is ok with this but some of them think I'm crazy. The weird part is that the ones who think I'm nuts are the FAT ones!

I live in Missouri. I am also self pay and Iwas going to go to Mexico for my WLS. I have found 2 doctors in Topeka, KS that does the band surgery for a cash price of $10, 750....... and that DOES include 1 year of fills.

I choose to stay in the states after really thinking about it ... you have the price for the WLS in Mexico, air fair and such, plus the cost of finding an aftercare doctor in you area.

When I compared the 2, I choose to stay in the states. Now, if I had not found a great doc w/ a great price then you betcha I would be hoping on that plane to Mexico ............ BUT now I don't have to.

I don't know if we're allowed to share prices of dr.'s on here but let me say he is very reasonable - he doesn't charge the $2,000 annual fee for life like Mid-West Institute of Bariatric Surgery was charging for all patients who were banded elsewhere. He is located in North Kansas City off of N Oak Trafficway - let me know if you can't find his number through information - I believe his practice is called Malley's Surgical Weight Loss or something close to that.

Has anyone used Dr. Van Waganer in St. Louis? He does his surgeries at St. Alexis

I am 99% sure dr wagner is going to be my doctor. He has done a couple of people on here.

Hi! I'm in Kansas City, just joined today and in the research phase. It's nice to hear there are doctors around here (N. Oak is only about 20 mins from home), the closest I had heard of thus far was St. Louis.

hi wheetsin - that's great - there are a few doctors around the area - Dr. Malley, whom I love and adore, Dr. Hoehn whom I would have also loved but he doesn't accept mexico patients which I am. And Dr. Waniewsky - she was my 3rd choice. There are others close in the Topeka area also. But the 3 I listed are in the KC Metro Area and I don't know what the prices of surgery are but there are some names for you to start with.

Hello Everyone,

I'm from South Kansas City and I have my first appointment with

Dr. Lopez Mid-West Institute of Bariatric Surgery on Tue Oct 18, 2005.

Has anyone had him do there surgery?

I picked him due to he has done more surgeries then

most in the Kansas City area for Lap-Band. I am going to pay for

surgery myself, so I was told that I can expect to have my

surgery in just a couple weeks. I can't wait to start loosing!

Wish me luck!

Elizabeth :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
