So this Thursday will make 4 weeks post op and I am still have severe bouts of diarrhea and some pain around my largest incision. I will spare you the details but will let you know that the diaherra IT IS NOT NORMAL and yes I have talked to my surgeon - he has been absolutely no help. In fact, I would like to speak to the so called Bariatric Center of Excellence this staff belongs to because they have been nothing but subpar. For instance, today when I called they said they had no record of me ever being in thier office - NICE!!! Anyway, will not rant about that.

I am learning that at this point I can still only tolerate liquids and nothing else. Luckily my appetite has not come back so this is ok. I like my liquids for the most part. Anytime I eat mushies I have uncontrollable diarrhea - and then am missing work. (pepto, maalox, calcuim, etc does nothing)

I am at the stage where I am in TEARS and fear I have made the wrong decision. I know this is a common feeling so am trying to NOT overract and just thinking of the RULES and how I can follow them better and that "this too shall pass". Luckily I am losing weight ( how could i not be when everything runs right through me) but am feeling that the weight loss is not even worth it...

I just need to be patient, be more strict in following all the rules, and getting my FMLA paperwork signed so I dont have to be so stressed about my job.

Anyway, I am seeking words of encouragement!!

I am so sorry this is happening to you. Could you go talk to your primary care doc and see what they have to say. Also I had diarrhea in the liquid stage but it went away a couple of days after I moved to mushies. I hope you can find a solution, I really love the band and my weight lose so far. Let me know if I can help in anyway, we are here for you.

If you are 4 weeks out and have been experiencing diarrhea since surgery I would be concerned about you getting dehydrated. If it were me I would contact my family doctor and let them work with the surgeon's office to try to figure out what is going on. You shouldn't have to go through your family doct to get answers from your surgeon, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Are you taking anything that might be causing you to have diarrhea? (any laxatives, stool softeners, etc). I'm no doctor, but I wouldn't think it normal to be dealing with this a month out.

Hope you feel better soon!

I had the same problem and came to the conclusion it was from lack of Fiber. As soon as I added some vegetables in, it got better. Good luck!

Thank god some one can relate. I will try to add in some fiber (metimucil or something) and see if that helps. That would make sense, I did have a very high fiber diet before.

Sorry, I don't have any suggestions as I'm still pre-op. But...I'm sending some well wishes your way. Hope you're feeling better soon. Also hope the fiber thing helps. Good luck!!

I also had bouts of diarrhea right after surgery. I am sure it is because of the fluids. I would move on to mushies for a couple of days and see if that helps. Even if you still have it after a day I would keep trying. I ALSO had deep regret right after surgery. I vomited for 3 days after surgery and kept thinking that I made a huge mistake. I had surgery on Feb 5th, 2009 and I have lost 35 lbs so far and I have had 5 fills and 1 unfill. My surgeon and my nutritionist are thrilled. I thought that it was slow but they said that sometimes it takes people a while to get to the right "sweet spot" I don't think I am there yet but I am close. Keep your chin up. It will get better

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
