New to this Site- A little worried today

Recommended Posts

Hello- My name is Sheila and I am new to this site. I had the lapband surgery in October 2008 and have lost 40 pounds. I really wish it were a little more. I am making an effort to exercise at least 3 days a week.

Today, I am having horrible pain- it is right in the middle of my chest. It is really, really bad- crushing pain.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!

Yes. CALL YOUR DOCTOR! If you have "horrible pain" in the middle of your chest, call your doc asap please!

If you can't reach your doc call 911. Crushing pain in the chest is NOTHING to fool around with.

WHEN you can...would you post to let me know you're ok? It's maybe nothing, but it's nothing to play around with.

I agree with restless. When we have symptoms like this we should be looking for urgent medical attention. We also need to not automatically assume that symptoms are caused by the band - there can be other reasons.

Did you call your doctor? Please, if you didn't; I don't know how old you are, your health history etc but "crushing" chest pain should NEVER be ignored, even if you are 20 and petite and at the perfect weight.

My situation is a little odd, I guess you would say... My doctor performed my surgery on a Wednesday and the next day, he was gone! I didn't find out until I went back for my 1st post-op visit! Talk about a shock. I still do not know the real reason he left.. I've heard several stories. I live in KY- about 40 minutes or so from Louisville. A practice from Lexington now comes here, but they're only here on certain days-Tuesdays and Fridays. If this pain is still here tomorrow- and they way I feel now, it probably will be- I will call. I don't have any of the symptoms of a heart attack- no numbness or tingling- just the pain.

Honey, don't wait until tomorrow...I have had open heart sugery at 48 years old...please don't wait until tomorrow, call your local 911 and get some medical attention....You don't have to have any one type of symptom to be having a heart attack...every case is different....PLEASE CALL 911....

CRUSHING pain IS a symptom of a heart attack. Good grief call your regular doc then, or go to a regional hospital. Don't be foolish. If it's nothing, then good for you. I'm done entreating you to call; you're a grown up. But to do nothing until tomorrow is, well, silly at best. Unless you are a drama queen and your pain really ISN"T crushing. ? Not being tacky either; just trying to get across via the written word how important it is you take care of it NOW.

I agree crushing chest pain is a classic heart attack symptom. There are also lots of other symptoms people aren't aware of. Did you know that it could just be neck or jaw pain, back or shoulder pain etc etc. Quite often there is no pain in the chest area at all!

I certainly wouldn't be messing around if I had crushing pain in my chest.

What we think of as the 'classic' signs of a heart attack are for MEN. Women often present in a totally different way, please do what has been suggested and at least contact your regular physician!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
