Cost of fills

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering what the average cost was on getting fills. Do insurance companies cover the visit as a routine office visit or does the Drs office bill them for different procedures. Im just wondering, I never asked my dr about this and was curious.

Thanks

K

l have Federal B/C B/S Basic and my doctor bills it as a surgical procedure which makes my co-pay 100.00..trying to get this changed. Verse's an office visit for $30.00

It costs me $250 each fill after my insurance knocks the price down a bit to that amount.

have you challenged this charge ? Sounds awful high...l met with my surgeon on Monday about my fee for $100 and he agrees its outragious, so if the insurance won't come down then we will settle on a fair price...don't be afraid to speak to the Doc

Good point. The office visit is all of five minutes and he charges $250, does seem high. But that's also the negotiated insurance rate for the visit...I guess it can't hurt to ask if they would consider a lower cost, though, or even look for an alternative to him for fills. I hadn't thought of it, I had just budgeted in the cost of doctor visits for the first year at $250 every 6 weeks.
