Hello ladies and gents, I don't have a surgery date yet, but i was thinking about doing a detox cleanse, so that i could be a lil less full of toxins and other nasty stuff before i do have the surgery..I kinda wanted to do it before I even start my 2 week pre op diet...So if anyone has any advice on this I would appreciate it..and if you did do a detox....what type was it and where did u get it? Thanks for yall's time!

May I suggest you ask your surgeon? S/he may prefer you don't. Some believe that "detoxing" is really not healthy because it removes our "good" flora and fauna from our digestive tracts. AND you'll most likely be given a bowel prep before surgery anyway. So check with your doc. If they give you the green light, then "go" for it!

My internist says that those detox things are not good for you because it's like a enema that kills off an awful lot of good bacteria and that doing that can have some negative impact on you overall. I did not have to do any kind of bowel prep before my surgery, which was fine by me. My only immediate pre-op requirement was nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before my surgery. Monkey's right. Your doc may agree with a lot of others, like mine, and not want you to do a detox thing.

my doctor said not to do anythin like that , because the pre-op diet is the kind of detox you really need . since it is a low cal low fat diet and liquids for a few days before.
