I'm worried I might have to be a self pay for my lap band. I was just curious if anyone has had one done in California and where did you go and how much did it cost? I have no idea what to expect as to the cost of the procedure and does it cover fills? Also, can you tell me what the time line was like and what did you have to do? Also did you like your doctor and the hospital? If you have any advice I would love to know.

I live in So. Calif. I had my Lap Band done in Tijuana and it went wonderful. I payed Cash and I can tell you is 15k cheeper then here in the US. I went to OCC Dr.Ortiz Check him out.

I was self-pay in the US. $15,000 if that helps. If you are self-pay, I have a suggestion for you. If you don't go to Mexico, for your pre-op testing, find out what is required and go back to your PCP and get referrals for those tests. They will more than likely be covered by your insurance even though the surgery isn't. That's what I did. If I had let my surgeon make the referrals, I would have had to pay out-of-pocket for an Upper GI, chest xray, sleep study, EKG, echocardiogram and a stress test. Lots of $$. As it is, it cost me very little.

I'm not in CA, but on the east coast and had to self pay. The one thing that saved me $9000 was to not have an over night stay. I had already been approved for out patient by my surgeon so when I had to self pay, I decided to save myself $9000 and did it out patient. I'm now 4 days post op, and doing just fine.

East coast price, as out patient, $14,000. In patient $23,000

I was self pay in California, LA county. It was 15,000, out patient, and includes 1 year of fills.

Dr. Waldrep, in Roseville, CA charges $11,000.00. He did my surgery. Everything was great.
