Dr. Mark Smolik - Dr. Smolik

Recommended Posts

I highly recommend Dr. Smolik. He is my surgeon and did a wonderful job. He and Dr. Cahalan are partners and their staff is also fantastic. They are well organized and give you a folder containing all the instructions and guidelines you need to help you with the pre-surgical and post surgical diet. If you have a question, they are more than happy to help. They stress that they want to be part of your medical team for life -- once you have the surgery you can visit with them long after surgery. I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have about Mercy Center for Weight Reduction.

Hello,

I am not sure how this blog works but will try. I am going to Dr. Smolik seminar on this up coming Sat. I am also almost 57 yrs.

I have over 100 lbs to lose and have tried it all and failed. I lost 65 lbs about 12 years ago and kept it off for 5 yrs and now over pass 7 years have piled it back on.

I am so ready to get this under control and live my later part of life as healthy as possible.

How long does the process take prior to having surgery?

What is post surgery like and how what was a sample day diet post surgery?

Are you elated and totally happy with your outcome?

Please email me at my email adress at crolsen96@earthlink.net ...

thank you ...any words of advice would be greatly appreciated.

C

I am sure this doctor is fine. However, I was someone who hoped to get after care only, (I had my Lap Band placed in Mexico). He will not see those who he did not do surgery on, as is the case of most Iowa doctors. His/Their loss! However, I did get aftercare via Weight Loss Surgical Center in West Des Moines and they have been awesome! I just post this information to help others from Iowa who might be in a similar circumstance. Please don't blast me with emails about how terrible going to Mexico is. I had a fantastic experience having my surgery there and would do it again. And I saved thousands of dollars!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
