Do you always get a fill @ 4 weeks?

Recommended Posts

My doc: If you are losing 1-2 pounds a week, no fill unless you agitate for one. If you are not losing, or are gaining, you get a fill.

Some doctors wait to give you your first fill until 6 0r even 8 weeks. It depends on the doc. Also, if you are losing and have good restriction, he/she may opt to wait a bit longer as well.

It all really depends on you and your doctor. You will find that everyone is going to be different.

I have learned in this to never be surprised by anything. I never surprised if I get a fill and never surprised if I don't.

I know that is not much help but it is best to be very very flexible when it comes to your band. Nothing seems to ever happen when you think it will and always seems to happen when you don't think it will.

I didnt. I was scheduled to see my surgeon at 6 weeks, which I did but I was losing fast and easily then so we both decided not to fill at that point. He told me to come in either in 4 weeks for a second check up and we would review then or to ring as soon as I felt I needed that fill.

After that, swelling etc subsided extremely quickly and within a week I was starting to be pretty hungry, although I still lost. From memory we brought the 10 week check up forward a week and I had a fill at almost 9 weeks. For a while after that I saw him at six weekly intervals and had a fill each time, although only small - like 0.2 ml and it gradually stretched out to much longer time frames.

At my doc's office, they weigh you, measure you, take your blood pressure and then talk to you. They ask how long you can go after a meal before you are hungry, how much you can eat at one meal, etc. Then they decide how much of a fill you need.

I actually just got my first fill yesterday and I'm only 3 weeks post op. I went in for my first post-op appt and he asked if I was getting hungry. I said yes and he said 'well we should give you a fill then'. It was uncomfortable as he said there was still liquid/swelling around the port but not painful and I"m doing fine with it so far. I actually wasn't expecting it at all as everything I've read said you usually don't get one until 6-8 weeks after surgery. Someone in my support group with the same surgeon has had 3 fills already and she had her surgery 3/24 (exactly a month before me)

Thankyou for all of your responses.

I DO feel full after I eat...but I am finding myself getting hungry now...so I'm thinking I might need a fill at my appointment. Is it normal to start getting hungry at 9days post op???? I hope so!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
