Hey all im a newbie here and wanted to say hi. My name is Robin i'm from Bronx NY and im 16 years old. Yeah i can hear the gasps, i know im pretty young but my weight is pretty out of control. Right now my weight is about 330 (i'm 5'6) w/ a BMI of about 52. So i started to consider the band because i feel like it's alot less invasive then anything else out there. I've been overweight since maybe about 7. Ive been on so many diets... weight watchers, LA weightloss, Atkins diet..others i cant think of at the moments. Most i would loose maybe 20lbs and it would all come back. I just would get so frustrated w/ it at times, it's made it hard for me. So When i discovered the band, well i took it into heavy consideration. I've already been to my surgeon for an initial consult (Dr Subash Kini in Mt Sini in NYC if anyone is familiar w/ him) and went back to have blood work done. I'm in the process of getting my physologist appointment and nutritionist appt scedualed. He's hoping to get a date in November, thats what he told me at least. The reality is setting in that this is all happening. It's alittle scary, but exciting at the same time. Okay i'm going on and on...just wanted to make my intro. Hope to chat with you all soon...

Robin

Hello Robin! We actually like it when people go on and on in their intros. We are very nosey so keep telling! :)

There are actually at least a couple of young ladies on here your age, 16 or 17 or so. No guys that I know of. I hope they will find you and say hello. Maybe someone can hook you up? Jodie Warner just got banded a few days ago, she's 17 I think.

Anyhow, welcome to LBT. You are sure to find lots of great info here. Just ask any questions you have, we'll do our best.

Welcome to LBT!!!

Robin, Welcome!! I am glad you are looking at taking control when you are young. It sounds like you are a mature and well organized young adult.

Contact Jodie to get some more teen viewpoints. I think there may be a few other teenage lurkers. If you guys get together, maybe you can get your own topics going. Its tough enough to be a teen today but struggling with weight and the band will be easier with support.

Good luck and keep us updated. Celeste

Welcome Aboard Robin! I have a 16 year old niece who is also struggling with weight, however her parents are not supportive of her at all. It sounds like you've got some support at home. Keep plugging away and GO FOR IT!

Thanks all for the warm welcome...you guys are great. If i have any questions about anything i'll be sure to ask you all :)I'm so glad i found this place...And i'm glad you all like to hear what i have to say because i just LOVE to talk. lol As far as the surgery goes I know i'm very fortunate to have my family behind me with this. My mother has been wonderful all through this so i'm very lucky there.

My family is all pretty close knit so as far as support goes i have my mother and my grandmother as well as aunts behind me on this. There are other members of the family who i have choosen not to tell, at least not right yet. After having it i don't mind telling them, this way there will be no way they can talk me out of it because it will already be done. I have nothing else wrong with me besides weight...well i have asthma but i figure the weight has something to do with that, but my family has a history of diebetis, arthritis, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol which both my mother and my grandmother have all of the above. So it's scary for me. Heart disease also runs in my fathers side of the family, so health is a big factor for me in getting to a healthy weight.

And it's great to know there are other teens out there too, and on this board so i'll be looking for the members my age on here too, thanks for the info ..okay i've gone on and one once AGAIN lol...just saying thanks for the welcome

Robin

Hi Robin.

I think the band will be the perfect tool for a young person like you! It stays with you for the rest of your life to help you keep control and the side effects are minimal in comparison to the alternatives.

It will be soooo great for you to be able to move into your adult life with your weight under control.

Of course, in your life-time, they may yet come up with that magic pill that changes our whole genetic structure and makes us all naturally thin - but even if they do, the band can be removed.

Welcome! And good luck. We are all wishing for your success!

:]

I greatly admire you.... I wish I could of had a band placed at 16. I couldn't imagine how different my life would of been. I'm yet to banded, but I'm on my way. Keep your chin up, and know that you are doing the right thing. You will get A+++ support at this website.

Hi Robin - Welcome to LBT! Congratulations on getting started on your new life while you're still young enough to enjoy it lol. Had I known about the band when I was 16, I would have jumped at the chance.

Your family must be absolutely great to let you go ahead and do this. There's nothing like having the support of the people you love. Makes it that much easier.

Yell out if you have any questions or want to talk. You'll do fine :D

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
