Supposedly the doctors blow your stomach up with gas during the surgery...at least that is what I heard. The best way to get rid of the gas is to walk walk walk. Again this is what I was told by my recent doctor's visit...I have not actually been banded yet. :)

In any laproscopic surgery they pump your stomach full of gas which basically just gives the doc room to work in. At the end of the surgery they try to get as much out as they can by squeezing it out...kinda like a balloon. It's hard to get it all out and some remains which ultimately gets reabsorbed into your body. In the meantime it might form bubbles which move around and cause that pain. Walk and sit up as much as possible and that'll help. There's nothing else you can do beside that and give it some time (a few days). The pain will be worth it in the end so hang in there! :)

At my pre-op testing the other day I was told that since the gas is in your body (and not in your stomach) gas relief medicine such as gas-x and beano won't do anything at all. Although I have seen several posts about the medication helping?

I just sent my husband for some gas x, I was banded monday the 13th of april and the chest gas pain has alleviated but I feel like there's a huge bubble in my stomach that wont come out. I hope it helps, it's pretty painful to stand up and walk around.

I wa banded on the 10th and I too am STILL suffering with gas. It's better everyday, but I'm ready for it to be gone. The gas is worst than the tender port area. The gas is now riding up and down my back.

I had two types of gas. One type was in my body cavity and the other was in my stomach. At the time I could not tell the difference between the two but now that all the gas from my body cavity is gone I still get gas in my stomach. This gas has to go somewhere and its either up or down. Gas X helps with this kind of gas.
