I (knock on wood) havn't had any problems. I had surgery on Wednesday and was back to work on Monday. I have had 3 fills also with little to no problems. The first time I wasn't tightening my stomach muscle enough so it took a few minutes to find the port but all is well. Good luck in your journey.

I'm going to say that you've heard the complainers.....most of us have had no problems at all. I had surgery on Tuesday, back to work on Friday. I had some gas (but everybody has gas, pretty much). My best friend had the surgery 2 weeks after me, on a Tuesday and went back to work on Thursday for a half day. She too had no problems other than gas. I have several friends on another forum and, again, none of them had any problems other than gas. Gas is so common I don't even consider it a problem. Happens with any abdominal surgery even if it is done laprascopically.

Had early Mon. morning surgery, was walking in 30 mins. of getting to room. Had clear broth for lunch, passed GI first try, shake for dinner. Slept on my side that night no problems. Sent home Tues. with an On-Q med delivery system (no pillow), it came out on Wed. night , no other pain med. Went out to pool hall that night and everyone since. Gas landed on Tues night and woke me, walk-gasx-WALK. It was bad, the noise was worse, still got some 3 weeks post op. I didn't nap, have been sleeping well. There is some Fluid & gas build up with swelling for about 2 weeks. I was back in gym (treadmill) 2nd week because of an ankle problem, felt good enough to go earlier. Don't worry, just do what the doc says before and after.

Me! The only thing that went wrong for me happened when I didn't follow my preop diet (I lost anyway but not by the diet my doc gave me) and couldn't get the band because my liver was too thick. Once I did what the doc said (lost more weight) and was successfully banded, I've been fine! I do what he says, and everything is groovy! Just follow your docs instructions and you'll do well!

I haven't had all that bad a time. What are you hearing? I was banded 3/9 and beside the normal post op recovery, it has been great. I have talked to many here that have had good results. I learned that the complainers, really didn't understand what they were getting into. It takes dedication to this. It is not a "miracle surgery" and if you are not committed to this, you will have issues. Tip: Don't let the pain get out of control. I left the hospital with vicodin, but that was to strong. Make sure you are able to handle that without being able to eat food. I have started at the gym and since banding am down 14 pounds. It is not a bad thing. Good luck

I was banded on February 10, 2009, and it's been a breeze. I'm terrified of needles, and even my first fill was no big deal.

It could be that those who are doing well don't post as often as those who are not.

I would do it again.

I needed this post as well. Thanks brighterdays for posting. I wanted to be educated and aware of what to expect. But I guess pre-surgery nerves get the best of me. Glad there are "good" stories out there!

I was banded 12/17/2008. I have had no problems. I was sore the first few days. It's a pretty easy surgery! Of course I PB sometimes and I'm burpy but nothing really scary...good luck don't talk yourself out of it. It is so worth it!

I was banded last May and have had no problems. A little gas after surgery, that wasn't pleasant. But other than that I've done fine. It is a learning process and I'm getting good at chewing and taking smaller bites. I think my fill is finally at the sweet spot. I eat about a 1/2 cup of food and I'm totally satisfied for hours, until the next meal. Drinking plenty of Water and I've lost another 4 pounds since the last fill.

I also had a good exsperience. I was re-banded on 3/17 and besides the gas pains it was a good exsperience. I had a little more pain because they had to remove the old band and place the new port in a new spot but the pain was manageable and I didn't use pain meds after I left the hospital. My advice would be to walk as soon as you are able and just take it easy for the first week.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
