how are the feb banders doing

Recommended Posts

I was banded 2/19/09 and as of today I have lost 20 lbs since the surgery and 40 since I started this whole process. Had my first fill on 3/24/09. I guess I am one of the lucky ones because I hear others talk about being hungry and eating more than they should. Since I had my surgeryit takes very little to fill me up. My biggest problem has been that my immune system went down after surgery and I have had a stomach virus, sinus infection, ear infection and one of my incisions got infected all within the last 2 1/2 weeks.

It's good to hear all the results - sounds like many of us have very similar results so far. That makes me feel pretty good in that I'm not the only one who hasn't lost recently - must be normal! I haven't lost any weight in the last week (my third week since surgery) but had a doctor's appointment two days ago. He said this is normal and that I should now start on 'regular foods'. I'm to note how quickly I feel full after starting regular foods (no more liquids, Soups, etc.). I am tentatively scheduled to have my first fill on April 10, which will be nearly 6 weeks after surgery. So far, I'm not finding much restriction but am still trying to limit portions and be cautious of what I eat. We'll see how the next two weeks go. Good luck all!

hello all Febbanders,

I am having a problem with my mind wanting to eat, but my stomach doesn't really care if I eat or not. My stomach has only growled a few time, but nothing major. Saw the doctor yesterday and I'm down 30 pounds including the pre- diet. He didn't schedule a fill, and says it is up to me and told me to go back when i get hungry and hour after meals. I am pushing the Protein hard. Good luck everyone.

I was banded on Feb 11 and have lost about 40 pounds overall, from the 1st of Feb. I went to the doc Tuesday and they decided to not do a fill. They said since I wasn't "hungry" in the mornings and with as much weight that I've lost that they didn't want to do a fill. They also said that they consider me to already be where they anticipated I would be in a year post-op. I feel that I've been very strict with myself. I'm worried that I'm going to stretch my pouch and I just won't do that. I haven't been exercising as I should but the weather here has been horrible and there's no where nearby do do any walking (no malls, etc.)

That is a really great weight loss. I am too worried that I will stretch my pouch so I am very careful of the portion size. I eat about every 3-4 hours a day. It has been kind of a struggle to wait and drink an hour before and after eating, but it is getting better.

I've worked to not "graze" throughout the day. That was a habit I've had to break. Now I only eat Breakfast before work, lunch and then supper... and NOTHING after supper.

I've had some problems getting used to not drinking before / during / after meals too... just something that we have to develop a new habit for.

Hey guys just thought i would pop in and see how everyones doing now that we're all past the 6 month mark. I'm having some reflux issues right now that have got me kind of bummed. But i'm only 6 pounds from goal and am still very happy with my choice to be banded. I haven't regretted my decision at all so far. So how's everyone else doing?

sure, i had 1ccin at surgery. about 6 weeks later i had a 2cc fil in the office. my 2nd fill was 1cc and my last fill was on june 1st that took to a total of 4.5cc in a 10cc band. And i don't foresee having another fill any time soon. I'm actually really considering having a slight unfill to slow things down so i can work on toning. I try to maintain a healthy diet, but i'm more of a strict calorie counter than anything else. i try to stay around 1200 a day or below. And if i want a treat a have it. but i definitely think about what i eat first instead of mindlessly shoving food in my mouth til i'm stuffed. but if i do have a snack. its counted as part of that 1200 and not extra calories. Counting is definitely the key for me.. good luck and keep me posted on how you progress. And 42 pounds is awesome!! those are 42 pounds you will never have to see on your hips or thigh again!!

I couldn’t be happier, down over 90lbs and close to my original goal weight:thumbup::frown::thumbup:

I was banded 2/18/09 with no initial Fluid in a 10cc band. I have had 3 fills and a small unfill, currently I’m pretty comfortable at 3.6cc (I think I’m at my sweet spot). I didn’t exercise much in the first 5 months, but the weight came off at a good clip, usually between .2 and .4 lbs every day. I have had restriction since the beginning. I eat between 900-1500 calories a day in 3 meals and sometimes one snack. My hunger is usually kept at bay for 4-6 hours between meals. I have gone form XXXL shirts and size 44 pants to M shirts and size 34 pants. I am below any previous dieting weight that I have ever had, and close to my US Navy Boot Camp weight from 1984.

As I started to get closer to my goal, I decided to shift my focus from weight to Body Fat %. Last month I went in for a Hydrostatic Dunk test and learned that my BF was 22.3% which is “Average” for a male of my age. I decided though that I could do better and am working towards a goal of 15% Body Fat, which is considered “Ideal”. Since starting a workout routine, I have dropped some more fat and am currently at 21.2% Body Fat. At my current rate, I believe I will pass my weight goal and attain my Body Fat goal within the next 1-2 months.

I LOVE the band:wub::P:wub:

Jackie,

Are you getting enough Protein? I find salmon to be a great source, but I can only handle so much of that. I have been supplementing with Muscle Milk Light or Protein Shots, both are only 100 calories and available by the case at costco. I find them both to be a little on the sweet side, but not as gross as some of the stuff out there.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
