Bunny Bandsters - April '09, MASTER THREAD #1

Recommended Posts

I talked to my mom today and told her about the surgery. She was pretty good about it. She even said to bring my Soup tomorrow and just tell my grandparents I'm on a liquid diet. My grandma still won't like that, but oh well. So I am very happy that I don't have to be manipulative. Tomorrow I will tell my dad. I'm down another pound today, so this liquid diet is doing it's thing!

Hopeful - I've been thinking about you and wondering how you were going to handle this. I'm sure you are feeling better now! I didn't want to tell my sister or my mom either because the both of them TOGETHER weigh less than I do. :tongue_smilie: But, since I want my sister to be there when I have the surgery, and take me home the next day, I had to tell her. She is a nurse, and now that she's researched the surgery, etc, she is very supportive, and I know they will both be so happy for me when I am healthy!

Congrats and best wishes to all who have dates and are on pre-op diets.....I'm so jealous! I am going to be so upset if my date ends up being in May, and I have to leave the Bunny Bandsters group. Cross your fingers for me!

I have to do it this way because I can't cheat small - I can only cheat big time!! unfortunately, I'm an all or nothing kind of girl.

I believe I am your twin. That statement is me 100%

Sherri,

Hopefully you will get your date soon and it will be in April!Even if you end up in May, you don't have to leave us. Keep us posted. I want to know how you do.

That is great about your sister being supportive about the surgery. I ALMOST told my mom when I talked to her today, but then decided against it. I just don't wanna hear it. She is not computer saavy and would have no way to research it. She is old fashioned and would tell me like always that all I need is to eat less and exercise more. But I am happy for you. I am using these boards as my support and so thankful to have them available!

I started the preop shakes on Saturday. The first one was made with skim milk and stirred with a spoon...very boring. I have a blender so the next one I added strawberries, that made it more bearable. I bought some canned peaches with splenda to try next. MMMMM :}

Is anyone else being banded on April 1st having it in Toronto? I can't wait to get off these horrible tasting drinks. I wonder why some of you can eat food other than vegies - we cannot?

Hi again

I too was reluctant to tell anyone about my upcoming banding. Mainly because of embarrasment I think. My mom and sister are both over weight - just a bit, nothing serious. I still thought they'd think I was nuts. In Canada you have to pay $16,000 for this so that too is a contributing factor, especially if you have a fixed income. To my surprise they were both very supportive - in fact, I think they really felt for me which was very sweet. I then told my brother and his wife (who is 93 pounds soaking wet) and they too were great. My husband and kids are thrilled and are hoping that I'll stop bitching about my weight every other minute. I told my boss and 1 colleague and the others just think I am going off to have a minor surgical procedure without any details. It was a load off my mind to have their support. They do say that there are folks in our lives that do not want us to lose weight and perhaps they will be jealous - that is their problem. Good luck to all in finding good supports - this board is a great help I am finding. It is nice getting to know you all and know that I am not alone.

Well I told my dad today. He is worried for me, but overall handled it well. Thank you all for your thoughts and concerns! At dinner I just held my little one and fed him his bottle. Everyone kept mentioning I should eat. I just brushed it off and said I would. They all went down to watch basketball and I ate my soup! My mom knew about it so she helped me be sly.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
