I need some input from the experts :)!

I'm miserably making my way through the mushee stage and was so bored with my pureed lentil Soup with some cottage cheese that I decided to add some hot sauce. Little did I know the hot sauce I used was really hot . As my husband watched me mix the whole mishmosh up, he simpathically said "are you sure hot sauce is ok?" and I had no response. All I could muster was a blank stare filled with wonder.

So to the question: is hot sauce ok to at the early stages (I'm 12 days out)? Is it Ok ever or should this go onto the no-way-no-how list?

Thank you!

I had salsa on my Beans and it was fine. I guess it depends on if you're used to it or not.

I cannot tolerate spicy foods anymore, but I was never told by my surgeon or nutritionist that spicy foods or spices were a no-no.

There isn't anything wrong with eating spicy food...The only thing you need to remember is that the food sits in your pouch longer so if you're eating this, try not to eat it in large amounts if you have issues with acid reflux or anything like that. If you don't have these issues, then it shouldn't be a problem!

I am a chile lover. Made sure I could continue to eat it before I made the decision to get my band. I put hot salsa in my chicken and beef broth right after surgery while I was on Clear Liquids. I make my own chile con carne because I like it HOT. I haven't had any problems with it - my body needs it!!!! I love it!!!! Becky - another Spice Girl

I also have no problem with spicy food. I do get hearburn occasionally but Gas x helps.

I love to load up on garlic and spices and lots of ground black pepper. Invest in a good pepper mill it will be your good friend when you totally stop the salt.

I eat spicy food often and can't get enough. It is never a problem for me, but I am accustomed to it. I did have a little heartburn when I was too tight . . . but that was resolved with a slight unfill.

One more thing I wanted to mention, spicy means different things to different people. I like to eat curry's, lots of garlic, jalapenos, etc and that is fine. I cook with a lot of peppers and like spicy asian dishes.

However, some people consider spicy eating to be punishingly hot, like eating atomic wings where you are crying and have to chug drinks to keep from choking. I think it is riskier to eat things that are so hot that you cannot taste the food itself because it can't move through your pouch quickly. Plus you are not supposed to drink while eating. I think moderation is the key.

Oh man, if it weren't for spicy food, I'd have starved to death long ago. I put hot sauce on my mushies a lot. I have found that I want spicy food MORE now than I did before the surgery.

I eat lots of spicy foods, and have never had a problem. Though I am like Heather, I never eat the stuff that is going to make me cry. Mostly salsa and pico.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
