Name your Lap-Band!!

Recommended Posts

After reading a few posts by people having issues with the thought of having a "foreign" object in them, and hearing someone name their band, I decided that mine needs a name. After all, I will have to live with it the rest of my life (or a good portion of it) and I'm sensing that everyone has a real relationship with it as well--good and bad.

I must note that I have not been banded yet as I have hoops to jump through, but I'm viewing this waiting period like pregnancy with all the mixed emotions that come with it until that glorious day when it finally arrives and you start your life together, learning all the quirks and personality of your little bundle of joy.

My process of finding a name came from a thesaurus. I put in 'band' and after that 'belt' and from those I decided on Girdy--like a "girdle", then thought of Girty/Girtrude. But I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to have a girdle the rest of my life. So my next step was the "tool", everyone talks about it being a tool so Mr. Thesaurus and I have collaboratively come up with the name...."GIZMO". :w00t: For us older folk when we hear the name Gizmo we think of Gremlins. Isn't that apropeau for that band? Especially when he's acting up.

So Gizmo it is! If you would like to use Girdy/Girty that is fine. It would be neat to know that I'm not the only crazy one here so let us know what you have named yours, or your thought process towards your decision. We would love to help you name it.

Spud Mama

I named mine Joe. It was the first name that came to mind when I first got the band. There's no rhyme or reason to it.

My band is named Ike. I flew to Houston for my surgery and my 4 day trip turned into a 14 day trip because Hurricane Ike hit Houston. We had quite a journey and I did not want to leave without my band. It only made sense to me to name my band Ike. I get along with my band most of the time, but there are times when we don't see eye to band - that's when I say my band is a male. Ike it is, and I do love him!! Good luck to you in your hoop jumping and hope you get Gizmo soon! Becky

I don't have a name for my band...I just say its the little miracle living inside of me. I'm down 71lbs since 12/26/2007. Hoping to get rid of 20 more this year.

What made me respond to your post was your log in name.

I'm a Spud mama too. My little dog (the love of my life) is named Spud.

Good Luck with your Journey!!!

I watched Desperate Housewife's this week and the concept of a porn name came up. The idea is its the name of your first pet and then the name of the street you grew up on. So I thought the same concept would be fun for naming the band - although with a twist.

So my idea is your favorite food as a pre bander and the name of your first car. So that makes me

Entenmann Supreme!

I had a client once who had an oxygen tank and she was a little bitter about it and we discussed naming it since she had to be with it 24/7 and she said it was a 'pain in the ass' so we called it PITA. Thought that was funny you thought of it too, but you are feelin the LOVE for yours.

Mine doesn't really have a name, but I refer to it as my "belly cop" because it helps keep me in control of my huge appetite.

Love my band.

That is so funny that you came up with Girdy! I named my band on the 2nd week of recovery and it was Girdy - I figured girlde was a old-fashioned so I gave it a little spice!

I get banded next week and I think I'll name mine Lucy (lose-e, loosie, however you want to interpret it) and for the obvious reason that it will be anything but loose eventually!

If I named mine after my favorite food it would be Chipster (BBQ chips are my enemy) but I'm afraid I'd be thinking about chips all the time!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
