Fabulous February Bandsters Unite!

Hi Ale78,

You nailed it when you mentioned that you needed to figure out how you got to where you are now. I'm actually scheduling an appointment with a therapist to do a bit of searching myself. From your post, it seems like we have a lot in common when it comes to mothers. I actually told my mother and it's been a rocky road. Before I got banded she actually said (and this is a direct quote) "i dont care how much weight you lose, I'll never support you because i dont believe it's right".

I was banded on the 5th, and since then, her conversations have revolved around nothing but food. food this to Food that. When my sister-in-law even said something to her, my mom's response was "she needs to learn to deal with it" haha.

Yep. It's rather daunting and a bit depressing to realize someone has such awful intentions, but i guess that's why i probably need to see a therapist, so I can learn new ways to cope with such insanity!

I was banded on 2/11. I am loving it so far. I either have some restriction or swellling (not sure which) but man, I feel full! I am an "full liquids" and have another week until soft foods. I think I might make it this time

Hi, I was banded on Jan. 30th everything has gone real smooth, managed to get through the first week just liquids now I am on the two weeks of mushies. However I have been so hungry and so sick of sweet shakes and just Soup that I have eaten things like cheese even chewed some broccoli, and a couple of pretzels. All which went down very easy, but now I feel scared and guilty. Can anything bad happen to me because of not following perfect? Is the purpose of the mushies so you don't throw up or is there another reason? Has anyone else ate food they shouldn't have? I hate to think I am the only one.

You are not the only one who has eaten food that they shouldn't have. Technically, I'm supposed to start mushies on Wed. but I started last night. I was getting hungry and the shakes were not holding out to the next meal. I just ate really slow and stopped when I felt full. My thoughts on all of the diets is: just as long as you are making healthy food choices and have small portions. If you can get the food down comfortably then you are fine.

I can vouch for this. Since I've been banded on Friday the 13th, I've not felt hungry once. It's weird. I mean, I feel some discomfort due to gas, but I wouldn't say I'm hungry. I can take a sip of fluids and I feel full.

You r not alone in eating what u r not allowed. everyone has a different post op diet. i am suppossed to be on liquids for 3 weeks..OMG. i have eaten a slice but very thin and very small maybe half od an inch of chicken chewed it up real good. i also had about 7 pieces of wheat penne Pasta and 1/8 of a meatball. it went down fine but the pasta made me go to the bathroom and it was bad....pains and all. other than that it was fine. i guess i havent deviated that bad but but the lord knows i want to and badly.

I'm in the same boat. I was banded on Friday the 13th also. I spent the night in the hospital and only had a glass of Water. I had twice dry heaves in hospital and suspect the anesthesia caused it. Since I came home on Saturday, I have had about 4oz of broth, 8 oz Protein shake, and about 24 oz of Water per day. I feel full and it takes about a 1/2 hour to drink the broth or shake. My stomach is sore and I feel like I have a lump in it but is getting better. I think I still have a lot of gas in me. I've been using a heating pad and that seems to help. I've been trying to walk around every couple of hours. I had my first BM since Friday today (Monday). I was on a very low net carb (<20) diet from 23 Jan to 6 Feb. From 6 Feb to Surgery, I was on a liquid diet. I had lost 22 pounds prior to surgery. I would love and to need to hear if people are having similar issues.

I was banded on Feb. 12th and with the exception of shoulder pain I am doing pretty good. My belly and incisions don't hurt but did I mention my shoulder....:rose: I am not glad others had this pain but I am glad to know it is common. OK so maybe they didn't break my collar bone during surgery.:tongue2: My doctor said that the pain is referred from my diaphram and that when it is better the shoulder will be better. I notice it flares up when I drink something cold more than something warm. I went to a casino on sunday but the thought of going to the mall to buy the Protein Drink was too much for me. Hopefully tomorrow I will get there.

Hi All!! I was banded 2-2 and just in the last few days I am feeling MUCH better. The shoulder pain comes and goes, my doc also said it is connected to the diaphram and is not gas. It's amazing how high up it hurts, I would have never guessed it was from the 'trauma' to the abdomen!! I was on 10 days pre-op Liquid Protein and made it 8 out of the 10 days he wanted me liquid post op. I started blended Soup a few days early but as soon as I did that, the hunger set in! I guess I have now moved to soft foods but I am really careful - nothing like crackers or anything hard. I still blend but sometimes it's not possible. Hang in there, two weeks post op makes a world of difference but now I have little or no restriction because the swelling is going down inside.

I am two weeks out now and I still have really bad shoulder pain. Its horrible!

As for diet, I started on mushies a few days early. My dietician said I could start a few days early if I was getting hungry on liquids and it was just in time, because I was so sick of Soup and sweet drinks!

I had spag bol last night, chopped up the spaghetti really small, and vitamised the sauce and it was heaven! I have also been using the slow cooker a lot to make meat really tender.

I am down 12.5kg (27.5 pounds) though have stalled for the last 5 days and its really annoying me!

To everyone who is feeling guilty about eating little bits, or having too much liquids - don't! You are having so few calories as it is. I have even had a couple of glasses of red wine a couple of times and it was just what I needed.

I am still getting a bit hungry on mushies, usually between Breakfast and lunch so I think I need a more substantial Breakfast. Going to give scrambled eggs a go tomorrow.

Hi everyone,

I was banded on 2/10/09. Spent an extra day in the hospital because I was too swollen to get all the fluids down they wanted. Now everything is going fine even the gas pain is subsiding (THANK HEAVENS)! Only had 1 really bad day where I felt hungry all day but that's gone too. I look forward to hearing about all the Fabulous February journeys. Good luck everyone!!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
