How do you take non-liquid medications?

Hello everyone - I am looking for some advice about ways to take my medications. During my pre-op physical, my primary care physician tried to order my medications in liquid form but they aren't available that way. I take Cymbalta, which is in capsule form and Lisinopril, which is pill form. I also take a low-dose preventative aspirin each day.

I have been opening the Cymbalta capsules and pouring them into water and quickly drinking it. My best guess would be that I am only getting 1/2 - 3/4 of the dose. I am grinding up the Lisinopril and aspirin with the same results. I am concerned about this and looking for advice from those of you who may have dealt with and conquered this issue. I am still in the clear liquid stage - banded 1/27/09.

My doctor said nothing bigger then an M&M--so far no problems at all.

For those that are opening capsule-you may want to check with the doc that prescribed them. Some capsule are time released and you may be messing with that by opening them.

i spoke with the pharmacist today about taking my effexor capsules. he said that as long as i don't crush or chew the granules, it would be ok to open them up and swallow with some water.

I spoke with my surgeon today and he said to use applesauce if it's the "No Added Sugar" type. I tried it this evening and it was wonderful!!!! I got every little bead and pill chunk into me. Great idea, thanks.

I must have misunderstood him when we discussed this issue as I thought it was going to be forever. He said no, just for the two weeks after surgery while things are swollen and in the healing phase.

I was told nothing bigger than a tylenol. I break them in half though. I miss my fish oil..I can't seem to find the liquid form anywhere..

i'm not sure where you live, but have you tried Whole Foods Market? i know it's a pricy store, but i know they have liquid fish oils. Look at any natural health stores, or else you could order online.
