Will I Regret This?

Recommended Posts

I just sent all the information for my LapBand surgery to Cleveland Clinic. I am 80 pounds overweight and my health is worsening as we speak. I have everything wrong with me that they listed and more! There is no way I am going to loose any weight without help. I guess I have come to the realization that at 59, if I haven't done it yet, I never will. So, here I am, feeling sorry for myself and found this website. Help me get excited about what I am about to do. I am scared to death!

Thanks for your response. Are you thinking of having weight loss surgery?

I had surgery 2 years ago and have lost more than half of myself. Best thing I ever did, ever for me!

I have 2 more appiontments before Im scheduled for surgery (upper Gi and liver/gallbladder sono) So Im thinking sometime in February. Im not gonna lie, Im scared Im gonna regret it but my Dr told me something that really hit me, she said even being slightly overweight can take 10-15 years off your life, Im not willing to do that so this is my only option right now:w00t:

I think being at this fork in the road in life is scary for anyone. So many conflicting thoughts swirl around... on the one side you think you've failed and can't lose the weight by yourself...on the other side there is still that thought that you can do this yourself without altering your body.

Being in danger due to your weight is scary.

Surgery is scary.

Maybe if you made a list of what scares you most... one column for fat, one column or surgery...then maybe once you put your fears down on paper, some of us can help you work through each item and help you see it in a different perspective? If you want to give it a try, I'm more than willing to read your list!

The important thing is that you are taking action for your health...and you can't go wrong there! Welcome to LBT. I wish you all the best! :tongue2:

I am 56 and have had the band for 1 year. If you have patience you will not regret doing this. No, you may not lose your weight in 1 year - it may take 2, but you will not feel like "I am on a diet." Take care of yourself and chew everything very well! Get your fills - I have a 10cc band and have had 8 fills. Listen to your body and you will know when you are full - stop there. I have struggled with weight all my life. Finally, I eat "normally" and have lost 60% of the 60 or 65 lbs I wanted to lose after one year. I have no doubt I will have the rest off in another year. It's not a quick fix, but actually, at our age, you don't want to lose too fast, or the skin will be pretty loose...go for it and ou will not regret it!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
