The Fill Port

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I'm on my way to getting banded. I don't have a date yet, still have to finish all my Dr.'s appts/consults, but hopefully I'll be able to set the date soon.

I've got a question for all of you who have been banded already. Where did your surgeon put your port? Can you tell it's there when you feel the area over it? Can anybody actually see theirs? My Dr.'s PA was telling me that in some people they can actually see it a little after they've lost a lot of weight. I know that's better than lots of fat, but it still kind of weirds me out.

Also, I know it's not the same, but my mother has a pace maker and she said sometimes it bothers her when she lies on it or moves a certain way. Has anyone had anything like that with their port?

I was only banded dec 22. Yes - I can feel mine. It creeps me out too. Its the only spot that still hurts a bit since my surgery. Mine is under my left ribs :) Cant comment too much more since I am so new to this.

I was VERY obese. My port is placed about 2" down and slightly midline from my left breast. I'm not exactly sure because unless I mash the pooey out of myself (which I generally do not do LOL) I can't feel it and would never know it's there. I have read about some people having problems (can see it, feel it) as they lose. I asked my surgeon about that. He, VERY tactfully, told me in larger people it's a challenge to access the port so larger is better. However once I've lost, if it's bothersome, he'd be pleased to place a low profile port for me

Mine is a couple inches to the right and up from my belly button. I can't feel it normally, but if I push around, I can find it. It doesn't bother me being in there.

Congratulations!!! I hope the time passes quickly for you so you can say you're a bandster too!!! :)

I Yes, I can feel my port. It is located on my left side right below my breast. I can see also, but it does not bother me at all, I just ignore it.

I hope that everything goes well with you.

Hello!

My port is below my right ribs a few inches down, this a new low profile port however. I had to have this new one put in on November 19th as I had pain from my other one. Much better now :)

Good luck to you and welcome!

my port is to the right of my belly button and up about 2"... it actually sits above the port incision, not right under it.

yes, i can feel it but you can't see it. its funny because my port is almost like my safety blanket. when i'm upset or stressed and think about binging, i touch my port to remind me that i CAN do this.

sometimes if i wear tight jeans that ride lower on the hips, when i set down the waistband will jamb under the port for a quick jab of pain.

It's funny to me how everyone is so different in where their ports are placed. Mine is about an inch below my left rib. I have heard they used to put them right in the middle of the breast but down several inches, but after people lost alot of weight, it began to show. Hope this helps!

My port is on the far left side and about three inches above the belly button. I know it's there, but I don't touch that area. I know that sounds crazy, but I just don't go there.

When I shower, I let the soapy Water run over that area. Ridiculous, I know.

Mine was originally about 3 inch above my bellybutton and a little to the left. After losing 60+ pounds now it is about six inches above my naval and almost right under my largest incision.Yes if press down I can feel it now in the beginning I could not really feel it at all.I was fitted with the VG band that comes with a low profile port so my doc says I will not likely ever had a problem with it protruding.

Mine is about 1 inch below my belly-button. I can feel it only if I go poking around for it. I had a low profile port put in at surgery so I am not expecting it will ever become mistaken for an 'outie' bellybutton....but who knows - maybe if I become rake thin (pause for hysterical laughter), I will re-evluate this!

After reading some posts from people who had their port at their bra line and how uncomfortable it was for them, I asked my doctor if he could tell me where he was going to put mine. It's right where he said he was going to put it, and it seems to be in a great location. It's left of center about an inch or two below my rib cage. It's a low profile port, and after the initial tenderness that wore off in about a month, (the first night, I woke up laying on my left side, so it really wasn't too painful), I don't even know it's there.

I can only find it by how the nurse told me to locate it. Laying on my back, I put my left hand behind my neck, and raise up slightly. With my right hand, I can feel the port.

It must be a pretty typical location. So far, with my fills, it's been one stick, and they're right in the port. No fuss, no pain.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
