Any February 2009 Bansters?

Recommended Posts

Hello! My banding is February 24th too! Looks like we will take this journey together. I gained 10lbs from my last appointment to my preop appointment. Now I am on an all liquid diet. Figure my hey days are over but waiting will be smaller clothes and feeling more fit. I am so ready too. Good luck February 2009 bandsters! Marge

Okay, I am even more nervous. I visited the forum of people who had to get thier bands removed for this reason or another. Probably the wrong thing to look at this close to surgery

Hootie, when do you transition to full liquids? What kind of Protein Shake do you use? I stopped using them on the pre-op a few days before surgery because i realized they were making me sick. I have to go find a soy powder cause i also have lactose issues (I wish i could have transplanted a whole new intestinal system! ha!). Are you going on walks already? My doc wanted us doing 10 minute walks the day after surgery.

Hola,

I was on full liquids from day 1 (well the day after surgery anyway). My diet is pretty much a yogurt smoothie in the morning and/or runny oatmeal and then a cream Soup for both lunch and dinner. Even though they are already "cream of whatever" I still blend them in the blender too. I don't use any Protein shake. The nurse who did our "Band Camp" (isn't that a cute name? LOL) said we didn't need them and actually advised against them. I'm not the least bit hungry and I figure I have PLENTY of fat to get through before my body starts looking for protein!!

I am doing a 10-15 minute walk each day as well as puttering around the house....not doing anything major but tidying up and stuff.

I feel pretty fortunate so far that it's been as easy as it has been and I'm just hoping it stays that way....

As for the ticker....go to tickerfactory.com and pick out the little scale thing, then the marker you want and fill in the info about starting weight, goal weight etc. At the end it will give you some code to cut/paste into whatever you are using (a bulletin board like this or myspace or Facebook, etc). I copied it, came here and put it in my "signature" in my profile.

Hope that helps!!!

Band camp..that's cute! Tomorrow I start my full liquids. I can't wait. I'm sick of this chicken broth. But amazing how i get really full from only half of what is in the microwavable campbells bowls.

Walked for like 30 minutes tonight..just wanted to keep going. I feel really good..got dressed, did makeup..wearing jeans. Can't really stay laid up on the couch...I go back to work as a nurse on thursday night and i'm pretty confident i'll be fine..maybe a little sore..

got my ticker thing going...hope it works when i post this:)

Your ticker did work! YAY!

I haven't put on jeans yet but I did put on a sun dress (I'm in PHX) and venture out to BestBuy yesterday.

I'm planning to go back to work on Tuesday and like you, feel like I'll be fine....

Here's hoping the journey continues smoothly for us. I feel so fortunate that it started out this good....

were you not able to sleep at all? I go in the morning. UUGGHH! I am nervous, but they say that is normal. right? I have lost almost 12 pounds on my pre-op diet and I am now under a 40 bmi. I am glad that they take the initial weight. the weight has come off fast, but there is no way I would be able to do this high protien and low carb. diet without the help for a long period of time.

For those who've had their's done: How is the going back to work been? I'm planning on going to Dr. Ortiz at the OCC, would like to have surgery on a Friday & be back to teaching on Tuesday. Possible or not?

I am also a teacher. What grade to you teach? I was banded on Friday, February 6th and tried to go back to work on that following Wednesday. Listen to your body and your doctor....I was supposed to be out a week. I was completely exhausted when I got home and paid for it the next day. Talk to your doctor before you plan anything!

I teach 5th grade. I had my surgery yesterday. I am very lucky that I didn't have any of the gas pain. I remember from my gall bladder surgery that was the worst pain. I dodged a big one. I am feeling really good. Of course I have some pain in the stomach, but really am happy with the pain level. I took two weeks off of school. I didn't want to take any chances. fluids are going dow easily which I am happy for. Helps get my fluids it. A teacher that I work with is also getting lap band in march. I was her guinee pig.

Hi Everyone,

I was banded on Feb.4th. The first weekend I was STARVING! I think that is the most will power I have ever had in my life not to have something other than "clear liquids." Things have gotten decidedly better. Today I started on the pureed foods! Yea!! Moving forward to a new life. As of 2/10 I had lost 8 lbs. post op. I get weighed again on 2/17. Hopefully I will have lost a few more lbs.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
