Husband/wife bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi

Although I have been lurking for a couple of months, it is time to introduce myself. My husband is getting banded this Tuesday and me the following Monday. Since we are self pay we are trying to squeeze them both in before the end of the year for the tax deduction. Fortunately, we are close to Dr Kirshenbaum and his extremely reasonable rates. If anyone can offer any insights to couples banding, it would be appreciated.

thanks!

No insights, but a wish for good luck! I hope you'll both love your bands!

It's great when you are on the same page as your spouse. We go out to eat and split an appetizer order, or else order something that makes good leftovers, knowing we are going to be eating the food for at least one more meal! My husband and I were banded the same day in October 2007, and we have each lost about 80 lb. I think it would have been much harder if we hadn't done this together. Good luck to both of you!

We're in Australia and were banded almost 3 years apart so no help to you.

But it helps our lifestyle to both be banded. However, I'm a lot more committed and dedicated to my fitness than my husband is, despite having lived with me and seen how hard I worked to lose my weight, he still thinks the band should just do it all. Consequently he's lost about 30lb since June.

But by the same token, he has nowhere near the same desire for physical perfection that I have. He's happy to be be healthier, come off his blood pressure medication and not have the threat of morbid obesity in his future. I'm a LOT vainer and want to look like a supermodel, lol. So even given that we have vastly different goals, I believe we're setting a heatlhy and moderate lifestyle example for our three kids.

my husband and i were banded the same day last oct.

while pretty competitive, is was really a blessing we did it together, though we did not have similar experiences. he needed 3 fills for restriction - got to goal in 6 months and "maybe" goes to the gym once a wk. me, i needed 8 fills and still don't call out goal because i have personal fitness goals i want to meet, i'm also in the gym 5-6 days a wk.

he can't eat anything in the morning - but Snacks all night. me, i'm pretty much on schedule with what i eat & when....

even though our bands operate differently - the net result is the same.....good luck to you both!

I'm so happy to hear all these success stories. My wife and I are leaving for TJ tomorrow to be banded on Thursday. We are both looking forward to going out and sharing this experience together. Both for the health and the cheaper dinners:smile:. I am just hoping I can handle the 21 day post op diet

Update !! We got to thye Dr Ortiz clinic before noon yesterday and had our cardio and pulmonary tests done and they said how woulld you like to get it done today ? Well I was a little nervous as was my wife but we firgred hey wev'e come this far why not go ahead and get it done a day early. So much for the last supper. Put on our funky liitle gowns and took the magic tequlla pill. (Makes you drowsy) and wiithin half an hour it was a done deal BANDED:thumbup:. My wife woke right up without any vomiting like she usually does. And I woke up a little slower. You know kinda drifed in and out for a couple hours. We both feel fine now. No real pain to speak of, Little gas pain but plan to go out and do some walking soon.

The entire staff and clinic itself was Exceptional. Nice people and everything was spotless and selled sterile.

I would recommend the Obesity Control Clinic to anyone thinking of having this done. We both got our surgeries and air fare from Seattle for less than I could have had it done for justs one of us in Olympia

So far so good.

Chris

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
