One pound up, one pound down, one pound up...

So I'm 22 days out from surgery ... so just getting into my 4th post banded week.

I started mushies last week -- everything went well. My oh my was that farina delish.

But now I'm just kind of in a standstill. One pound up, one pound down, one pound up, one pound down. I'm not really gaining. I'm still tracking my food -- trying really hard to stay at 1000 calories per day. I would say my surgery restriction is quickly going away.

I get my first fill Jan 6th. So is the best I can hope for is not to gain? My walking regime has been cut a little short -- the ice and cold has put a damper on it and I'm waiting for the next round of Water aeorobic classes to start the first week of Jan.

So this is pretty par for the course, yes?

Pretty much. Then after the first fills, you will loose a few pounds, then again stall. I'm still there. Not enough restriction. So the first days, when you're on liquids/mushies again, it'll drop a quick pound or two.

Same thing is happening with me.............after the first 13lbs that came off right away............i go down a pound then up two........then down three..........then up 1 then down 2...........i have managed to drop weight but it's frustrating!!!!!!

Up a pound, down a pound, stall a little, down a pound . . . and repeat repeatedly is the story of my banded existence.

It is normal for it to be this way and as long as you are not having any lasting gains this far out you are doing OK until you get your first fill. I was exactly the same but have made it to goal . . . so don't be discouraged. If you keep doing the right things consistently, the pounds can't help but fall off, even if they do so in their own time.

I was banded the 24th. I have lost 24 lbs since I started the pre-op on the 19th. I also have lost my restriction and feel hungry almost not quite as much as before. I can not binge like I used too but I feel frustrated also. My first fill is January 15th, and I hope to god that I will feel that restriction again so that I am not as hungry. Let's compare how we can eat.....for instance I had 3oz of eggbeaters for Breakfast. For lunch I lost it and had about 4 pieces of ham (lunchmeat). I also ate a salsbury steak lean cruisine at 270 cal:eek: I am only at about 500 cal so far and I think I messed up by not having a Protein Shake. They say that is the secret. having a Protein shake in between each meal?

OMG!!! LOL.... I am normal.. I lost 19pds since surgery.. and I am stuck.. well not stuck.. idk.. I am up 5 pds, down 6 pds. up 5 pds down 6 pds blah blah.. I am just hovering over this 215 weight.. which has been my "normal" weight for yrs.. give or take when I would starve myself or eat to much crap.. I was suspose to get my first fill this month. But my poor Dr. was in an accident so I have to wait another month :( I am averaging 1500-1600 cals a day. I am not gaining weight other then Water blah! To hungry to eat less... especially at night. Granted I am eating 1000-1500 cals less then what I normally eat.. boy oh boy my body is stubborn. I am glad I am not alone.

I know how discouraged you can feel after surgery when you are not eating very much but your body is resisting the weight loss. If you body is really resisting losing weight, you may need to increase your calories to about 1200 calories to fool your body into thinking that you are not trying to lose weight. I have done this for a week at a time and I always find that the following week, I lose weight faster. My dietician told me to also make sure my food intake is high in Protein, low in carb and especially low in sodium. You may be retaining Water.< /p>

Well great to hear we are all in the same struggle which obviously is normal. I get my first fill next week and at the moment feel normal, barely any restriction. I've gone beyond mushies to the real stuff but trying not to over do it.

What I am having issues with or maybe not issues just discomfort is where the port is. It feels tender and at times it feels like poking needles in that area. Has anyone had that?

Thanks everyone. I'm really trying to stay true to my 1000 calories and starting real exercise (beyond walking when it's not cold out ... and seeing I live in Missouri -- I'd say that's been twice since I got surgery.)

My TOM was a little slow to get here this month (I'm told that's normal) so I'm thinking 1 extra week of Water weight could help that one up one down funny business.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

        Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
