Welcome Cole! This is a great website. I'm a Sleever so I don't have info or experience to share on the Band.

Welcome Cole, and hello to all of my other peeps!

Tamra dear, I have "social" eating issues too. Call it what you want - a sense of entitlement, wanting to join in, attempting to appear "normal" - whatever - I'm going to keep on joining in on the trips to starbucks and lunch too! WE MUST TREAT OURSELVES WELL. But you are not treating yourself well if you're not in it for your health in the long run. Fortunately, we can have both! We can take ourselves out, join in the fun, never miss a party, and still be the healthiest (and smallest!) that we have been since 2nd grade. It's all about making smart choices.

Ignore the teasing about the Decaf. Here are safe Starbucks bets with 0 cals and only 1 carb:

Decaf coffee (black) (BORING! but good on a cold afternoon)

Americano with SF cinnamon dolce (or SF vanilla, etc) (my AM beverage of choice)

Unsweetened Passion Ice Tea (add Splenda)

Venti Shaken Passion Iced Tea with SF vanilla (I just discovered this one, and MAN! What a treat! I let my friends try it and they want it instead of their gooey frap! You can also have them whip it up as a blended drink)

Stay away from the skinny latte. While it's better than the full version, it has a ton of carbs (milk has lots of natural sugars that increase appetite).

As far as the sushi goes, fish is actually an excellent band food (NOT the rice!!) Order sashima (sp?) but expect to only be able to eat 1/4 cup of it - ask for them to bring a box with your lunch. That's exactly how it's supposed to work, isn't it great? Honestly, no one ever even notices that I hardly touch my food and take most of it home. Except my boyfriend :-) who feels sorry for me cause his plate is heaping and I just have a scant tablespoon of everything on mine. But I know from too much experience how bad it'll hurt if I eat 1/2 bite too much, or if I try to eat bread at all, so I just dont even desire it anymore.

I need to get back to my exercise, I feel like such a sloth . . .

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!:)

Good morning All.

Hey Riley, I see you down there.

How is everyone. All is well here. I spent Saturday night in the emergency room. I was having some severe abdominal pain. I recieved IV fluids... 2 bags to be exact and I am up 4-5lbs this AM. I feel so bloated. My feet a swollen and hurt hecka bad. I can't wait until the swelling goes away. It better take this extra weight with it. To make along story short. I have an ovarian cyst that may need to be removed.

Funny thing???? The surgeon that reviewed my CAT Scan said I have an enormous amount of bowel in both my large and small intestine. I was prescribed Magnisium Citrate and Miralax. The MagCit has finally kicked in and boy, oh boy it is explosive.... I'm glad I am home for 2 days. Follow-up appt this afternoon and another with my OB later in the week. Wish me luck and prayers, please.

I was also told to do a liquid diet for the next few days..It is so hard. I did well yesterday...I had a bowl of cream of broccoli for Breakfast. Slept most of the day. Wonton broth for lunch and cheated with 2 bbq ribs for dinner. Even with so little food for the day...I was so full. I hope this episode makes me re-focus on my band and the proper foods to eat. I do feel a tad bit tighter because of the vomiting I did while in the emergency room. Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you I had to drink 4 cups of this yucky stuff you have to drink to illuminate the CAT Scan....Oh joy!!!

Anyway, I still have not lost the 10lbs Dr Fisher wanted me to lose and my appt is Friday, June 18th. At this point. I don't even care if I don't get a fill. I want to eat something on 6/19. It's my mom's birthday and Father's Day is the next day....I know it's bad for us to plan to eat...But hey, we still have to live. I just want a more convienent time to get a fill. Not that I am getting one...

I do have something that I am extremely happy about...I went to Walmart and wanted some plain denim shorts...Nothing fancy....I am so sick of the labels. Everything I have is brand and I look like a fool wearing BabyPhat shirts with Dereon pants, etc....I don't mix labels...That's just me. So, i was shocked to find that I fit my butt into a size.....drumroll please......8 shorts. NOT 18, yes I said SIZE 8. Unbelievable!!! I was in shock!!! I haven't worn an 8 in over 10 years....

I only tried them and was convinced they weren't going to fit because they only has a 4, 6, and the dang 8.

Okay so, I am not losing much weight...Just playing with the same 2-3lbs but I am apparently losing inches. Not playing the inched game according to Dr Whoo but....I'll take it!!!

When the heck are we getting together? We need a walka and lunch at the cute little place we ate at in Vallejo. I want some Clam Chowder.....TTyL

MONICA:

Wow that is scary!! Hope your feeling better. How did all of this effect the band? Did they say anything about the band? ER is a scary place.

TAMRA: Yea I got a fill .50 it was to tight(my opinion) I went back in and got .25 out. I don't want to play around with to tight and losing all my Fluid again. I orginally wanted .25 but they thought that .50 would work well since I lost 12 pounds. I don't know call me crazy I am afraid of being to tight!! I have good restriction right now. Maybe in another month or another 10 pounds I will try to go back up another.25cc. I will probably lose slower cause I did that but oh well. I am down four pounds this morning. Still on liquids until tonight. I just felt like the Water was going down way to slow...........took me all day to get in 64 ounces a little at a time. I think I might be fine with this fill for a couple of months. I am sure they thought I was crazy to get some out. But the doc said he understood I told him I don't want to even get close to to tight because I don't want a total unfil or to slip my band. So I need to up my exercise and protiens alot so I can keep losing. I feel like I have good restriction but of course I am on liquids until tonight so who knows for sure yet? I am sure I would have loosen up by the end of the week but don't want to take chances. I am a high maitenance patient ;-)

Ah the first PB!! HURTS!! I hate when I do that............but Tamra you might have more restriction than you think if you PB'd. Moody bands!!

Social Eating..............LOL I will have to come back later for that one. That is a whole other issue!!

I signe up for the seminar at Kaiser West Point. Anyone else??

Okay wow...So I have a lot of catching up to do! So I have not been so well-I had a nasty sinus infection-then it turned into bronchitus so I had TWO rounds of antibiotics. Then I had the stupid procedure done the IVC filter which was HORRIBLE! Too much to write but just imagine getting surgery in mexico on a folding table with a oat hanger-no pain medication and them going through your NECK!! yes they went into my jugular vein in my neck. The procedure took almost an hour and a half because my vein was soooo deep. Yeah only me the medical nightmare. I still can't move my neck right or it hurts when I move or sleep. I got a nice hemotoma (spelling) in my neck cause it took so long and they had to place it take it out and then place it again with a f-ing tubes in my neck. DID I MENTION NO PAIN MEDS!???

Anywho-so my neck is still super sore and then I got a Nasty root canal done and antibiotics again...and I am still having this lingering dry cough. I am not in good shape here!

On a good note-My SURGERY is JUNE 16th! They moved up my date, since I have had so much go on I am waiting to hear if I have to wait but I should be fine.

OMG-SO I WILL BE SLEEVED IN 9 days!! Okay I am freaking out. This is normal right???

So yes on a good note my surgery is less then a week and a half away. Hello to all I have LOTS to catch up on! I have been a mess so that is why I have not posted in a while.

Tina ~ Congrads on the fill thats wonderful! Moving right along! As for me having restriction I must admit I have been taking some "15 day cleanse" pills, and weirdly enough they make me tight, and I haven't been getting down my normal foods.

Riley thanks for the tips, I have cut out the rice as I had an episode the other night after a big bowl of rice at the sushi place; I was in so much pain I think the rice had blocked my pouch that night. I will never eat it again.

Morning all, hey Monique YAY! on the 8's! It's a magical number, isn't it? I was ALMOST there, now I'm back to 12's . . . . I wanted to stabalize at a 10 rather than a 12, that way I could fit in 8's after the Tummy Tuck. 12 feels so "big" to me now! I so have to get back to my excercise. But typing about it isn't getting it done!

I am so down for another walk & lunch in Vallejo . . . . but not on the 19th, that's NASCAR!! woo-hoo I'm camping out for 5 days at Infineon again this year, any other NASCAR fans on this board? Last year I was down 80 lbs, single and crazy (!) this year down 100, no longer single but still hecka crazy!! I can't wait. My band hates camping though, I get too dehydrated and that makes me too tight.

Tina I'm all about the .25 fills, they always think .50 but I'm too scared! I don't want or need ANY fill right now, have not had one since December. He thought I would need one more around now but I didn't continue to lose, I gained some back. Band is working, I am not! Work is SO STRESSFUL right now, as I'm sure you can imagine. People all around me will be unemployed in 2 weeks, I may or may not be employed in December. At least I managed to raise all of my kids before the bottom fell out of my financial world . . .

well have a good Tuesday everyone, let's put that walk together!!

At my case manager appointment I got my surgery date and she went over the labwork I needed to get and the preop nutrition and postop classes I needed to take. How exciting - we have a few people getting ready to have surgery this summer.

I found out I do have a resistance muscle after all - I made a quick trip to Target at lunch today and looked at the candy at the register - I even had a small bag of M&Ms in my hand and then I put it back and then I looked at the little box of sugar free Werthers hard candies and saw each candy was 40 calories and put it back. I really wanted some candy but decided it was not worth it. I'm still working on the mental struggle of this process - probably will be a lifelong thing.

Hi,

My name is Stacey and I just got the go ahead to attend the weight loss surgery overview class from my PCP. He told me after I did that to let him know which facility I wanted to go to. I am in Novato, so my choices are Richmond and S. San Francisco. I was wanting to ask for opinions/experience and see which one would be the better choice for me. I know the Richmond is closer, but I don't want to just base my choice on that. I would love to hear what you guys think about the facilities you used.

Thanks!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
