I have been referred!

Recommended Posts

I have my first appointment with the surgeon tomorrow after being referred by my primary care physican. I am so scared that he is going to tell me no, that I am not a good candidate. And maybe I'm not...I don't have any serious medical conditions at this point, just a serious family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, & heart disease. I just can't seem stop/control my eating anymore. I was on Weight Watchers a few years ago and lost 120lbs, but have since gained it back. I am turning to the lap band because I cannot forsee struggling like this for the rest of my life. I am mentally exhausted and depressed about getting up every day hungry and trying desperately to eat controlled portions, but failing. My BMI is 40 and I think without any co-morbidities, he is going to reject me...

I guess I'll be the first to reply. I'm not much further along than you, and unlike you...I do have co-morbidities. However, from my readings it looks like a common practice may be co-morbities are only really needed if BMI is under 40...but I might be wrong.

They should also take into consideration that you've had a supervised weightloss in which you stuck it out for more than 6 months, and the weight was gained back. My doctor told me that was a plus in my favor.

Although, I haven't been approved...I have a hard time believing that I won't be. I think you'll be fine as well.

Good luck!

I went to the lapband doctor with a BMI of 40 and he felt that I was a good for it. Its the best thing I have done for myself. Here is a question do you have knee problems, back problems, or other things? You might be surprised at what you might have. Plus they will take into consideration the family issues. What does your insurance company require? If you would like e-mail me and I will forward you a letter that my wife and I used to get approved. I was surprised at a few of to the co-items we used.

No knee problems and nothing I would really consider a back problem... I have started having trouble sleeping through the night, not sure if it's apnea or my husband's restlessness:smile:.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
