5 days post op

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I had my surgery on 11/13/08 at Cedars Sinai. Everything went fine, I was never anxious going into surgery but right after wondered if I had done the right thing? Sunday was my hardest day, there were fires in my city and got little sleep. It was also very difficult to see my family eat. I am on Clear Liquids for 3 weeks with the exception of milk for my Protein Drinks. I must take in 75 grams of Protein a day and 8 glasses of Water. The social worker said it takes 21 days to break an old habit and be retrained, I wonder if that's why cedars uses a 3 week clear. Your brain is funny, I can't even say I'm hungry, but I think I miss the fact of chewing food. I'm not even craving anything bad, I do want salmon or split pea Soup. For me,the epiphany came when I realized everything you put into your mouth counts. How many thin people do we know that diet? They are thin because they work at it. I plan to succeed, I plan to loose weight and live a healthier lifestyle. So on my depressing Sunday, they happen to show the 890lb 29 year old women who had gastric bypass and died 3 days later due to a heart attack. That show was a reminder of why I had surgery and why I must make healthier choices. I was 216 preop, not sure how much I currently weigh. But I feel almost all of us who are overweight got here by our choices and now the ball is back in our court.

Good luck to all you november bandsters!

Thanks for listening to my babbling.:rolleyes2:

Congrats on your surgery!

I too was watching the show about that poor girl and knew I had done the right thing at that point. I am one week post op and have been losing on a liquid diet (two weeks here). I want to be healthy and watching that show gave me that much more motivation.

I craved french fries the other night. My family was eating them. They smelled SOOOOOOOOOOO good. I quietly went into the bedroom, got a dab of Vicks and put it under my nose. Instant-Odor-Be-Gone! No more craving!

Put that one in your bag of tricks and it may help on a rough day. It's helping on mine!

Congrats again and welcome to bandster land!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
