How are the banded Notorious Novembers???

Recommended Posts

We were told to sip sip sip. They don't want you to get too full of liquids. Then no drinking anything 1/2 hr before and 1/2 hr after you eat. So you don't wash a lot of stuff down. Remember you are chewing and chewing. Just made good sense to me. We 2 sets of nutritional classes before the liquid and before the surgery so we would know what to do before and after the surgery

I'm curious if anyone elses doctor told them not to gulp liquids. They showed me xrays of a gal who had gulped Water and it blew up her esophagus. I'm horrible about doing this, after I work out. So, everyone, be careful!

They told me to always sip liquids, but didn't explain why. I just assumed it was because there wasn't much room. I didn't think about what the repercussions would be. Yikes. It's funny that gulping down massive amounts of Water was one of the things that I knew I would miss the most about my pre-band life. I feel like doing it now, just from talking about it. LOL! Thanks for the heads up.

My doc never told me not to gulp liquids until my 2nd fill last week. After my fill he had me take a drink to make sure the band wasnt too tight and the Water came back up. The only reason it came back up is because I took a huge gulp like I normally do. He told me to take small sips and walk around the mall for an hour just to see if the water would stay down. It did! Now I am so nervous to have that feeling in my chest of water getting stuck I will only take small sips. I never imagined water would get stuck like food!!!:tt2:

I had no idea about gulping water! Thanks for the heads up. Sipping will be an all day endeavor then to get enough Water in!

I am in a learning phase I suspect. I am kind of falling into a habit of letting the band tell me when I am full rather than stopping at 1 cup of food. Going to start working on that more. I am also probably having a little more wine than I should and of course, ate too many snack type foods over the holidays. My loss is at a stand-still. When I do eat properly, I am getting hungry two hours after a meal, so I know I need another fill. That is scheduled for the day after tomorrow, thank goodness.

Guess this is where the hard work of it starts!

I'm with you... Today starts my day for the tummy to tell me and I'm going to track it this week so i can see what the real deal is... I'm dying for my 2nd fill I feel like I'm so hungry all the time. I cleared out my fridge this AM went to the store and I have my shakes and proper Snacks for getting in my daily Protein. I'm back at the gym and I'm ready to get rid of a few lbs. Drinking Water is my biggest thing .. not drinking enough so now I'm going to try to carry a bottle with me every where I go. I'm ready to get back to work I've been on vacation for 2 weeks and I think going back will keep me on schedule.:tt2:

Just read a fantastic book and wanted to share it with all of you. It's called 'Skinny Bitch', and despite the title, isn't just for us girls. It really makes you take a long hard look at the nasty stuff we put into our bodies....aspartame, high fructose corn Syrup, etc. I'm not ready to do the whole vegan lifestyle, so I'd recommend skipping the chapters about meat, but it's an excellent read, and I'll tell you what, sure helped me with my Pepsi and white bread cravings!

Hi

The GI Diet is a good one by Rick Gallop.

He has a green light line of foods that you can eat at any time, a yellow line to be careful of and eat once in a while and a red line to stay away from.

Low GI foods are slower to digest, so you feel satiated longer.

Keeping insulin levels low inhibits the formation of fat and assists in the conversion of fat back into energy.

The key to losing weight is to eat low-GI., low-calorie foods.

You can get the book at chapters its about $25.00 Canadian.:)

Good luck

I am hoping to schedule my 2nd fill this week. I'm not dropping any at all and I know it's cuz i'm eating badly. I am not eating as much as I used to, but still way too much. Hopefully this next fill will give me some restriction and i can really begin to focus on eating better. I'm getting impatient. :) I know that is silly but i just want it to start melting away. hopefully soon.

Just be patient. I had by 2nd fill a little over a week ago and the restriction is wonderful! Now I just need to focus on eating the right foods and working out! Don't be impatient...next year this time you will be the BOMB!!!:)

So far, this fill business sure works. Had my first fill on Tuesday, 3.5 cc. liquid diet for two days--no biggie, no appetite anyway. Ate a bit of lobster last night, not much. Protein Shake for Breakfast today, lunch was some cottage cheese and a teeny bit of fish. Test time--dad took me to dinner, at a Mexican restaurant, boy was I worried. Could only eat about half of one enchilada and have been full ever since (six hours ago). YAY!

Sounds good!! And I guess you still have no problems with it? My first is Tuesday! I still get full really fast and don't eat very much or get hungry very often. Occasionally I have a day that my appetite is more, but I never get hunger pains....ever!! I have to ask questions on Tuesday because I still don't know what size band I have or how much fill he put in when he did the surgery!!

Amber i'm the same way I loved the progressive loss in the beggining and I have a fear of being out of control and I don't want to do any dambege by overeating. Glad to be back at work after the holiday so that Fridge will stop talking. I have read that the 2nd fill will give us more restriction so I'm counting down the days:thumbup:

Good morning and Happy New Year to all Notorious Novembers!

Scheduled for my first fill tomorrow morning - I'll check in and let y'all know how it goes. I am at a 'Center of Excellence' bariatric office (affilated with Yale University) so I'm hoping for an easy appointment with no (or very little) pain.

The holidays weren't great - not bad, but not great. I did make it to the gym 6 times during my 'off' period. My office shut down from Dec 23 through Jan 5. I also did some snow shoveling and other stuff to try and keep busy.

Had a NSV (non scale victory) on Jan 2nd. Went dancing with my hubby (swing band we love) and at the end of the night, even after dancing my shoes off - no knee pain! This despite the fact that I was wearing high heels and we danced a LOT.

Looking forward to a fill, though - I feel like I've gained a few pounds since before the holiday and I definately don't want to go back to where I was pre-surgery!

Hi All , I dont get my first fill until Jan 15, I havent lost a lot of weight at all

I have been really sick for the past week with the flu with all the coughing my stomach has been cramping , I dont really know if to much coughing will make my band slip.

Also I had stopped feeling my band but I can feel it again and when i pass my hand through my side i can feel the port , is that normal?

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
