How are the banded Notorious Novembers???

Recommended Posts

Good Morning everyone!! I can't believe November is almost over. AND we made it!! It's 11 days post-op and I'm feeling better everyday. I even went to JoAnn Fabrics for yarn yesterday....didn't get there 'til around 11am because I didn't want to get in the middle of the madness.

Today my big adventure is the treadmill. I'm sipping my oatmeal watching QVC. Once I know the oatmeal has settled...it downstairs for a walk. I have dozens of Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds tapes but my surgeon's nurse said I may have to wait 3-4 weeks because of the aerobic activity....I'm also reasy for my Tony Little Gizelle. My apointment is Tuesday at 4:15. I've vowed not to weigh myself until then....

WE DID IT.....NOTORIOUS NOVEMBERS!!!!

I was banded on 11/25 and right now I feel like I am starving myself to death. The broth is yucky and I am drinking propel, Water, and eating sugar free Jello. Has anyone else been so hungry they just can't stand it.

Thanks,

Joan

Joan - Get your Protein Drinks in - you need that to heal and the Protein will help to fill you up. (I'm on the mushy phase now - can't wait to eat food again)

Also, I found that just some plain Tomato Soup helped to fill a void of what I was craving.

Hi Elkridge! I'm in Pasadena, over by Glen Burnie! It's good to hear that you and everyone else are doing well. I'm on my 3rd day post-op and actually had a great day today! Every once in a while i feel the hunger pains, pretty bad sometimes, but for the most part it's been ok. I'm drinking my Protein Shakes, and find that if I Water down regular apple juice that's good, too. And, as much as i disliked Crystal Light before all this, it tastes pretty good now!

Have a question for you or anyone else though: what about Soups? Like cream soups: chicken, Tomato, etc?

Good luck to all!!!!! Lets keep it up!

Rhonda in Pasadena

Hi Rhonda,

Where did you have your surgery? Who was you surgeon. I've been straining chicken noodle Soups and Tomato soups. The cream soups didn't settle well. I went to Panera yesterday & asked if they would sell me just their broth & they did. I strained it and was really good. I also have bought their tomato bisque and strained it. I'm still having a difficult time with the Protein Shakes. I've been adding Water to the bullets and getting a lot of my Protein that way. E-mail me at my personal e-mail. I go for my follow up visit Tuesday....how I'm looking foward to mushies. BTW....your stats are great!

Hunger or no hunger I am so over this liguid diet and cant wait for it to be over. The interesting thing is going to be tomorrow, at Disneyland. But hey I figure if i can get through Thanksgiving, Disneyland should be a piece of cake....Yumm did somebody say cake!?

Doing fabulous here! Put up all the holiday stuff yesterday, baked Cookies, did housework and helped Joe with the bathroom renovation we are doing. I get a little more "open" every day, but I am not stressing about it. I have my postop appointment today and will make my appointment for my first fill today too. That will happen in three weeks.

Fellow Notorious Novembers,

Nice to see everyone checking in!

I was banded on November 17th - no problems there. The surgery was pretty fast - it actually took them longer to find me a bed for the night! After getting settled, I slept most of the night and into the morning. I did get up at 4 am and walk because I was suddenly wide awake.

More thirsty than anything else, port and surgery sites were a little sore. It's too funny - I was the subject of a lot of 'viewing'...lots of med students and residents. I didn't mind too much - they have to learn by talking to someone!

Took 2 weeks off - first few days on liquids was harder than I thought it would be, but I made it through. broth, Crystal Light, Water and I are good friends. My family is doing the same eating plan with me - DH is already down 8 or so pounds, DD down about 5. I'm down a total of 25, 10 of which was pre-surgery. I'm thrilled! :cool2:

Tomato Soup is one of my favorites...plus I like the clear protien drinks made by Isopure. I also had sf Jello and popsicles, though my family loves them too so I had to 'beat' people off of them periodically.

Sat on the couch a lot, caught up on my reading, HGTV and some crocheting. Only used the pain meds about halfway through day 1 and that night. I did use the Roxicodone for a couple of days at home at night.

Now I'm at the beginning of week 3 and moved on to mushies (2 weeks on liquids was what my Doc said). I check in with the doc tomorrow. Surgery sites are healing well, though my bra band irritates them a little. At a size 40H, I can't go without, so I try not to move them too much. I'm going back to the gym tonight to walk on the treadmill - I can't wait! :)

I've felt some restriction - probably due to swelling after surgery - and I'm glad for it. I'm definately not eating the quantity I did before surgery. This afternoon I felt nearly NO restriction, so I guess my healing process is going well. Now I must be even more vigilant about what I eat so that I don't put any weight back on. :tt2:

I have a personal goal to be below 230 by Jan 1st. I'm at 241 right now, so I think I can make it - especially with me getting back into the gym.

Congrats to all the Notorious Novembers - let's ride this wave of success right into 2009!

Hi to all!!

I start mushies today!!!!!!!! :tongue2:Yes I'm excited because I been in a liquid diet for the past 4 weeks and I needed something to chew on. I have a Doctors appointment on Wednesday for my first fill and for my official weight in, hopefully the scales is good to me. I been really good with my eating but last week I was lazy and did not go to the gym I should be ashamed of myself!!!:cool2: Today I'm back to my routine and for punishment for not going to the gym last week I'm not taking the weekend off from the gym. That should teach myself! LOL I will post my new weight on Wednesday.:)

Hope everyone is doing good!

GO US!!!!!!

Back from my postop appt and very pleased! Down 16.5 lbs and way above average in terms of recovery and weight loss both. Cleared to have cottage cheese, very very moist tuna salad, scrambled eggs, non-liquid yogurt and cheese sticks. I get to start mushies "all the way" on Friday...meaning blended foods including meats.

He said absolutely no formal exercise for six weeks with the exception of the kind of walking I would do to go shopping. Who would not want that prescription? In particular no elliptical. I am glad he told me...I was going to start back at the gym this week. But I have been having terrible back pain that he says is referred pain from my port and that I need to take it easy.

I am thrilled so far. And cottage cheese sure did taste good!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
