Hi

Ok here goes. I have been overweight all my life. Portion Control is the biggy for me. One year ago I had a complete hysterectomy with removal of both ovaries. Since then I have developed a very large inscisional hernia. Went to my surgeon yesterday and he says it will be very difficult to fix at this weight as their is not enough available muscle to close the hernia with. I asked him about weight loss and he said it would help tremendously for closure of the hernia. He 100% agrees with me having LAPBAND and along with my GP will put in a referral to my medical Services Plan (British Columbia). Now I need to know about wait times through BC MSP or if MSP will allow me to go out of Province or if MSP will speed up my wait time due to the hernia. Any input would be great

thanks

I don't know about the specific hernia you have. I had a huge hiatal hernia that was repaired at the same time as my surgery. I'm very grateful for that, as the symptoms I was having from the hernia were getting to be very hard to live with. I feel so much better! Your kind of hernia, though, goes up through the diaphragm, as I understand it, in a different place and is more difficult to fix. Your surgeon would very likely be able to give you more information on that.

My hernia is way down low by the pelvic bone it is from my hysterectomy opening up. But maybe a lapband surgeon can sew it up and it can be a 2 for 1 deal covered by BC MSP.... thoughts anyone???????

My insurance covered both, though I haven't seen any of the details yet. I was just banded on Monday this week so I haven't seen any financial statements yet.

Wow - it's great to know I'm know alone out here. I had my surgery Tuesday this week and never knew I had a hernia until after surgery. The dr repaired it at the same time. My concern is it is now Saturday and I'm still on strong pain meds. I don't know if it's the hernia, the lapband, or both. Does anyone have input on how long this pain with occur?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
