Hi Everyone From Austin, TX

I have had all my testing done and finally got my surgery date! November 18th and I am so excited! This site has been so helpful to me that I just want to thank everyone for all the information, the good, the bad and even the yucky. I'm looking forward to my new journey to a thinner and healthier ME!

Hi all! I'm in Austin and was also banded by Dr Fass March 31st of 2008. I LOVE Dr Fass. He has been fabulous!!! I have lost 90 pounds. 35 more pounds to my goal :)

Thanks to all for the comments. I just love all the information everyone shares. Dr. Fass is also my surgeon and he really is good. He did tell me not to expect much weight loss the first 6 months. I'm looking forward to attending a support group. I live in southwest Austin and was wondering if there was a group down south or is the only one at Seton Hospital on 38th?

Dr Fass told me that too, here I am 4 months out and I am 76lbs down (~50 since my surgery, and ~ 20 on pre-op diet), He also says that I am completely stubborn so maybe that has something to do with it. I told him, I will loose weight, don't you worry, and I have.

Hello Everyone, I haven't been banded yet but I am getting my blood work and other appointment on Jan. 8. Hopefully I will have my surgery soon. I live in Elgin, Tx which is 20 miles East of Austin. My surgeon is Dr. Marquez and I will get my surgery in Round Rock. It is good to talk with people in my local area that has been through this or will be going through it. I have around 100 lbs to lose and I can't wait to start losing it. The support on the forum is awsome.

Hi all,

I am looking for a support group in the Austin Area! I was banded 11 months ago in mexico and I had a great experience! I am on a huge plateau at 42 lbs. lost and looking for a support group! Either an existing one or let's start one that meets every 4-6 weeks or so! Any takers?? I have 2 people already interested! Let me know! Thanks!

Hello, I'm up for a support group. I will be banded on Feb. 3. Just let me know when and where.

Robin

I attend two different support groups here in North Austin. One of them is a social group that meets every second Wednesday at TGI Friday's at La Frontera. We just sit around and socialize as we eat. The restaurant always breaks the bill into individual checks for us. I also belong to a support group at True Results that meets the last Thursday of the month. We meet at the True Results on Parmer Lane. They are great and welcome everyone!

Hello,

I was also banded by Dr. Fass. I attend the support group of southwest bariatrics at Seton Medical center. We get together the second Thursday of each month and we discuss topics that we choose in the begining of the year. We only have one party a year and that is for Christmas and we eat bariatric friendly food. We welcome everybody.

We can start a mini-group if we want to socialize more, and probably we can meet once every other month or so..I am open to do it.

Just let me know,

Thanks

Vicky

I am open to meeting too. I have tried a few times to set something up and both times one person showed up LOL

which is fine , im always open to just talking to people.

I have a TON Of stuff gonig on this month. The 4th is my son's bday the 5th is my anniversary the 13th is Dh's bday so after I get through all that I can breathe then be able to do something.

Mindy

Are any of you near Elgin? I would love to have an exercise buddy because that is going to be my hardest thing to do.

Robin

Hello,

The Seton Medical Support group is open to everybody. The meetings are held the second Thursday of each month @ 6pm. IMO; I think it is easier to attend that group once a month than trying to schedule another meeting with our busy schedules. If anyone is interested in attending let me know I will provide info and the topics we are going to discuss..

Just my 2 cents,

Good Luck,

Vicky B

Is that group a band only group though ?

Mindy

Hello,

The group has members from all different types of surgeries, lap band, gastric bypass, and gastric Sleeve; we talk as a whole group first and then we separated into small groups per surgery type and then we discuss or ask questions to our mates.

The next meeting is next Thursday feb.12,2009 @ 6pm.

If its seperated out that might not be so bad. the probelm that seems to happen when support group meetings are combined with surgeries is it gets nasty very quickly with " my surgery is better than yours" or " OH I can eat that YOU cant" kind of stuff. So that's why i asked. I would like to meet maybe in someone's homes or restrurants, but its up to others I dont care ?
