Hi everyone! It's so exciting to see us all on the other side now.....although a few of us have experienced some bumps, all in all, it looks like we're doing great. Look at those weight losses!! My surgeon is pretty conservative about the whole food thing. I'm still on purees until later this week when I'll transition to soft food. I still have no hunger or appetite and have to set timers to eat. How about others? Are you experiencing anything like this?

I was banded on the 19th and also had a hernia repair done. The surgeon had a little surprise there....much more extensive than the scans indicated and in a tricky spot...but I'm all "repaired" now! My recovery has been uneventful, although my port incision is still kind of scabby. The pain was pretty minimal. I'm exploring a new form of exercise for the winter....I got a mini-trampoline which should keep me moving when the weather here in the northeast is nasty (like to day when it was 9 degrees!!)

Best wishes to all! Let's keep up the great work.....

I am so ready for a fill though I think my weight has stopped and still I am not eating anything. I have had a couple of glasses of wine though! I don't feel restricted at all like I can eat anything I want or at least anything I have tried I have stayed away (mostly because they are not in the house) chips, etc! I go next wednesday back to the Doc hope to get a fill then but it's been less than a month since my surgery:w00t:

I hafta ask: Is it just me? I was banded 11/21 and just last week went to mushies. I've been able to have stuff like cottage cheese and crab cakes (per nurse).

However, ever since starting mushies, right after eating (and for a while after, like hours), I feel like there is food right at the back of my throat, like behind the tongue but before the sphincter to the stomach. Same thing happens when I take my morning meds, one of which is a smallish capsule.

Anybody else have this? It's not uncomfortable or anything, it just always feel like I need to swallow something. For the record, I also had a hiatal hernia fixed at the same time. Don't know if that matters.

Wish I could help but I've never experienced anything like that. Does it make you feel nauseous? (spelling:cursing:)

No, thankfully. It's not bad, per se, as in it doesn't make me feel anything beyond feeling like I need to swallow. Maybe it's my imagination... I have my second post-op next Tuesday, so I'll ask then. I'll be sure to eat beforehand, so maybe they can look and see if they see anything. :)

Hello all, I was banded on Nov. 21st and have been feeling great! The most awesome thing happened the other day I crossed my legs! That seems so small to some but to me that was a big step! I had my first fill yesterday and was scared out of my mind after reading what some people post about their experiences. I must say there was nothing to it the np was great it only took a few minutes I was at the drs office for a total of 30 minutes and today so far I feel great! I hope everyone is having much success!

I swear we must be the same person! I too had the same experience yester at the doctors office. As I wa sitting getting my blood pressure taken I called over the nurse to tell her that at that very moment "I was crossing my legs" and NOT holding them together with my hands on my knees!!!! Its amazing how things like that that have been gone for so long when we get them back it shows us how much progress we are making! I had my fill yesterday which was painless but it took her a few....quite a few pokes to find the right spot. I could hear the needle going in and out of the perimeter of the port and it sounded so strange, a pooping noise. I drank a Protein Shake last ight and am having cream of wheat as we speak for Breakfast. So far so good!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
