Who here has No side effects from the band?

Recommended Posts

The only "negative" side effects I can think of happened last night. I tried eating some shredded beef for the first time. Ohhhhh... a little bellyache! And, today didn't really feel like eating AT ALL. I'm sticking to my chicken, thank you very much. It's just not worth feeling bad over.

I eat much less than I have in the past, and like some of you, I've become very particular about what I eat. Since I know that my limit is restricted, I am making better choices. I eat Proteins first, veggies second, and have no room for nasty empty calories.

I have many more "positive" side effects. No GERD, ACID REFLUX, NEXIUM! More energy. I am HAPPY and PEPPY, and I'm just feeling so dang good about myself. I wish I had done this earlier, because it has been so easy. I really can't believe what a 'no brainer' this is.

Well I must say that I really feel that there probably isn't a bandster out there that can say they have never had band related side effects... for example... Pb'd or slimed had more gas since being banded or has burped more since being banded or had food bother them more since being banded. I think all of these things will happen to you at least once..../QUOTE]

Opps, I forgot about the burps and farts! Yup, had those, however, I have never PB'd or slimed. I did get the golfball feeling a couple of times though from eating too fast.

Rene, now I know what you mean. Burping is my biggest. The hiccups were embarrasing at work for a while, but they went away. Regarding reflux, mine went away totally within a month of banding. I was able to stop Nexium. I also have a feeling that was due to not eating at night anymore--it is highly recommended that we don't cause the food just sits there.

I assume by "side effects" you actually mean complications?

Zero complications here...over a year and a half out...

Great Nancy. I wish all were as lucky as you. Most seem minor and I have to judge what I am will to risk as I'm researching. Side effect means like when you get meds at the docs and the pharmacist goes over the side effect of the drug like nausea headace ect. I know a lot of bypass people have vomiting for a yr out and thats not something I'm willing to risk doing surgery

for so I need to ask questions to help me see if i'll go for the band.

Thanks for sharing and glad to hear it!!!!!!

Hi Rene,

Jamie's right, we probably ALL experience effects from being banded on occasion. But these are not "side" effects so much as the direct effects of having a restriction in our stomachs.

And they're manageable and indeed, change over time and with our behavior. I don't have excess gas at all, though I do have gurgling in my esophagus if I drink too fast. The reflux I've experienced has been totally manageable, and in fact is a clue that I'm doing something wrong. So as far as experiencing any "side" effects that were not predicted or are not manageable, I'd say there have been none.

hi Rene,

I have side effects. And yes one can manage it but it would have been prefrable not to have to....Had these problems since the first day after banding.Never had it before.Am a model patient.Hate the idea that people think one does this to yourself with wrong eating or drinking.I have "cheated" with food twice in 10 weeks and in my previous life that would have been considered a small snack.< /p>

Heartburn and reflux.Im not very restricted but only able to eat 90 grams of either fish or chicken breast most days twice a day as I am restricted in the morning.(Physically Im able to eat a lot more though...but reflux dont allow it...)Almost anything else gives me heartburn.

I am losing weight fast because I really cannot eat a lot and dont.i cannot drink anything but Water and havent for almost, heck I dont even know, more than a month...

It is not easy but when everyone mentions that I am losing weight it is worth it.I just dont know the long term selution to this problem.I also know that my experience is not the rule. Most peoples band is positioned differently and works just fine.

Just read and see how many people, after about 4 weeks, say I dont even know I have the band....until I eat to fast......

Good luck

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
