Anyone get banded at just 35 BMI?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have my first consult on Friday with a Dr in Mildura VIC.

I only just have a BMI of 35 and have about 30kgs to lose.

Has anyone been in the same position? What was your weight loss like??

Any help would be great!

I was banded Jan 2008 with a bmi of around 35. I have since lost about 50 lbs! I am thrilled with the results! I am self-pay, got it done in Mexico because with a bmi that low, I would never have had it done through our health care system.

My only regret is not having had it done 25 yrs ago.

Good luck with your decision.

BMI 36, lost about 45kg depending on the day.

My weight loss didnt break any world speed records though, it took me a good 2 years to lose that. But it was steady and dependable.

I run an hour nearly every day though.

My BMI was 36 when I was banded. My loss has been great up to now, when I have reverted into old ways and not eating right, but happily not putting on any weight. I have lost 20kg and am so happy. I would like to lost 10kg more but my doc is not keen on me doing so. I am a skinny on the top half of my body, but carry all my weight on my bum and legs.

Despite playing between 3-4 games of netball each week, I am not losing all that much on the lower half, but I am toning up.

When I get the motivation I will get back on track eating wise and really make a go at losing the rest of the weight. It's been 8 months for me.

I was banded end April 2008 and it has been slow but steady. My doctor said he has a lot of success with lower BMI people. I was not prepared to wait until I had a large BMI before I was banded and my doctor was happy to take me on. The best thing I could ever do for myself and there are no regrets. I love it when people tell me how good I look even though I am not even half way there yet.

These stories are so good to hear. My BMI is around 35 too and my op is scheduled for Nov 17th (day before my birthday!). I'm scared about the actual surgery and how I will handle the first 2 weeks of just Fluid but I'm hoping this will be the new start I need.

I too was banded at a BMI of 35,

I "let "mysef get to that so i qualified, as soon as i got my date i went on Optifast / Duromine and lost 25 kg in 5 weeks before surgury. After surgury i lost another 10 Kg and hovered like that for the next year. All that time i had minor hicups with overfill / underfill.

This last year i have fucked it ALL up with eating sweets constantly. Yes when i eat a meal i only eat a small portion ,But in between i constantly graze on SHIT and off course i have put on about 12 Kg in the past year .

I can not seem to break the cycle. ...........

Never ever would i give up the band though, i now it works and you just got to work at it , CONSTANTLY.

My BMI was 37 when I made the call to the surgeon, and 35 by the time I had the surgery. I'm 3.5 months out now and have lost almost 17kgs, with another 13 kgs to lose.

I too thought it was best for me to do it before my BMI started to go up even more. I had no doubts I was heading to a BMI of 40 and beyond at the rate I was eating. I never really ate fattening foods, I just ate A LOT. Now I eat a fraction of what I used to.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
