In the Canadian media we have been getting the same reports of extremist behaviour from McCain-Palin supporters at their rallies. If what you are saying is true, then the fact that this information is false is scary.

Why hasn't anyone brought up the subject of who McCain pals around with?

His good buddy G. Gordon Liddy was one of the Watergate burglers! Liddy has been guilty of all kinds of subversive activities and his right wing extremism is certainly a matter of record. He was not just accused of the Watergate burglery, he was convicted of the Watergate burglery. He's donated to McCain's campaign, and they are certainly known to be closer associates than Bill Ayers and Senator Obama.

As to the question this thread posed, I will go out on a limb and say that if someone assassinates Senator Obama, Americans will tear that terrorist from limb to limb. And the digging will go very deep into organizations that scream succsessionst, anti-government diatribe - like Todd Palin's organization does. And Sarah Palin endorses that organization by her on the record statement that she agrees with them.

The reason this possible assassination attempt question came up and is relevant, is because there are so many right wing fanatics in this country who believe that they don't have to pay taxes and they should be able to amass an arsenal of firearms, and who think they're right when they take the law into their own hands (for the good of their cause.) Like committing assassinations and burglery of the opposition party's headquarters.

I will be depending on Senator Obama's ability to surround himself with more than just the Secret Service. I hope he will surround himself with the biggest, baddest body guards that he can find. And I hope that he won't take chances and expose himself to the manical terrorists who call themselves partiots.

We need Senator Obama. We need someone with his intellligence and calmness and core values to bring this country together. We need someone who, unlike the people in the McCain campaign, will decry ignorant personal asssults and hatred of the government. We need to get on with the business of rebuilding America and seeking peace for the world. We need to be role models for the rest of the world, not the monsters some countries believe we have become.

Yeah, very scary. I have no idea if it's true or false. I can only tell you that the Secret Service would take very seriously someone shouting out a death threat towards a Presidential candidate, and they say it's just flat out not true. My tendency, knowing what I know about the media, is to believe the Secret Service on this one.

If the media reported something that did not actually happen, then they should be more careful. However I watched that portion of the rally and what I heard someone yell was, kill him. I have also seen footage of other rallies where people shouted scary things.

The Palin rallies in particular have been inciting that kind of anger from people. She knows that her smarmy delivery and sarcasm and exaggeration of the truth and accusatory comments, all while she is grinning, are encouraging bad behavior on the part of her supporters.

Has she taken any responsbility for it? No. Has John McCain? No. In interviews with a couple of different reporters, they fiercely deny that they are lying or stretching the truth or inciting to riot.

Palin has continued that same delivery and the same smarmy statements, over and over even today. She seems to delight in it, even appearing to stifle an outright giggle when she gets a really negative reaction from the crowd. It really makes it clear what kind of person she is. It makes it clear what kind of core this woman has in the center of her being. And if someone did take a shot at someone running in this race, I have a feeling she would secretly embrace it as an accomplishment of her own.

I don't think she or McCain or their handlers care one whit about pulling this country together after this election. To them, this is war and the only plan is to win at any cost. Damn the people, damn the country and hurl anything at the enemy that just might cause one voter to cast a vote for them.

What do you suggest gadget, to unite this country after the election if Senator Obama and Senator Biden are elected? What would you do to convince people that we need to work together even though we may be disappointed that our man/woman didn't win?

Maybe that would be a good thread starter. How can we united everyone to work for the good of the country after the election is over - no matter which side wins!

You should forward this information on to the Secret Service, then. What they have heard, upon review of footage and tapes, is "tell him" or "tell them". But if you clearly heard "kill him", that's something the Secret Service would like to know about.

Quite frankly, I think no matter who wins there will not be unity. Both opposing sides will be livid and dismayed and scared. We have a deep divide in philosophy among Americans, and because the philosophies are so diametrically opposed, I don't believe there is anyone who can unite them. How can someone who believes in socialism be expected to support a capitalist, and vice-versa? How can someone who is pro-life be expected to support someone who's pro-abortion, and vice-versa? How can someone who's anti-war be expected to support someone who believes war is a necessary evil, and vice-versa? The list can go on and on, but the bottom line is that there is very little middle ground between the two candidacies, and I don't think supporters of either will be happy should the opposition win.

It is a sad state of affairs and I wish there were a solution, but unfortunately I don't think there is one

We have an easier time of it up here in Canada. We elect minority governments whenever we, the people, cannot reach a consensus at election time.

Lucky you Canadians, eh!

gadget, we must find a middle ground in this country. A middle ground that allows for tolerance and understanding and compromise. A way for us to get along, if you will. What is the alternative?

A state of war? You believe that people want some kind of civil war? Are we no better than some of the countries that have attacked each other in the streets, practiced ethnic cleansing and imprisoned people for having different beliefs and different religions? Those countries where we have intervened and spent our money and our lives trying to help them learn how to live with each other... you expect that in this country?

The Republicans have had control of this country for actually over 8 years. It has brought our economy down, it has driven our national debt out of sight, it has caused our country to be at war once again in a far off nation that has cost American lives and American taxpayer dollars for no sane reason. It is time for a change. You need to allow others to try their hand at running things and allow them time to prove that they can take the kind of action that will get this country healthy again.

If you can't allow that, we are sunk as a democratic nation.

I don't know. I don't see the left as being particular tolerant, understanding, or willing to compromise with Bush. Instead, I hear them calling him demeaning and degrading names and deriding his executive decisions. I also see the left calling McCain and Palin names, challenging Palin on facial expressions and colloquial terminology, and the like. And, to be fair, I see the right calling Obama some equally polarizing things. I do not think this will stop when the election is over, regardless of who wins.

No, I don't think people want civil war and I don't know that I expect it to get that dramatic. More likely, I expect to see continued corruption, and general stagnation in politics because of the two sides being at war with each other.

We need to allow the democrats to win -- so that we're not sunk as a democratic nation? That's rich.

Just headed off to bed and came across this article (Austin Hill : Can This Year?s Presidential Race End Peacefully? - Townhall.com) which states:

At the liberal activist website MWCNews Dot Net (media with conscience), the following rhetoric appeared in a “report” filed last week:

“If your television declares John McCain the president elect on the evening of November 4th, your television will be lying. You should immediately pick up your pre-packed bags and head straight to the White House in Washington, D.C., which we will surround and shut down until this attempt at a third illegitimate presidency is reversed.” The implications of such language are obvious - - a McCain presidential victory simply will never exist, and anyone who might declare that such a thing exists will be lying."

Later in the piece, the author writes “If Obama officially wins, McCain is likely to challenge it, charging the Obama campaign with some of the very crimes engaged in by McCain himself. Our reaction should be exactly the same in the event of a McCain challenge as in the event of a McCain ‘victory.’ We should not sit back for even a split second and wonder how it will work out…We should be prepared already to immediately travel to Washington, D.C., head straight for the White House, occupy Lafayette Square Park, the Ellipse, and surrounding streets, block entrances, and shut the place down until Obama is recognized as the president elect or we are guaranteed a credible election with universal registration and hand-counted paper ballots. We may be there for days or weeks or months…We must show each other, and the nation, and the world that we have had enough, that we will not stand for one more stolen election, that we will not give in to fear, lies, theft, and intimidation…”

Additionally, Rolling Stone magazine published a piece last week written by the “esteemed” Robert Kennedy Jr. Kennedy claims that Republican “operatives” around the country - - Secretaries Of State, Lieutenant Governors, County Clerks, and other elected officials - - have a well-coordinated system of disenfranchisement in place, even better than in 2004, and will be arbitrarily throwing-out untold numbers of ballots so as to “give it” to McCain.

I thank God that there are finally people who are blowing the whistle on the corruption and dishonesty behind the Republican wins in the past elections and blowing the whistle on the possibility of more of the same this year.

Maybe all Americans have a chance of having their votes counted and their voices heard - that would be something that I believe every Christian fair-minded person in this country should be thankful for.

I appreciate you calling attention to the very real possibility that this year will present the same or more challenges that have happened in the past. Exposure is the best way to meet these challenges and begin the arrest and prosecution of people like we had to prosecute publically in the Nixon administration.

Corruption in our politics and the lop-sided policies that favor the very wealthy in this country must stop. If they don't, the country that we have known and loved and the ideals that this country is based on are fast coming to an end.

The greed has become so pervasive in our government and in our corporations in America, that the things we have taken for granted are failing and collapsing all around us.

If Americans can't understand why we need to readjust our focus in this country, then they will elect John McCain. I hope we are smarter than that.

I am so grateful to the men and women who have come out and endorsed Senator Obama who are Republicans, heads of corporations and some of the top military personnel. It has taken a lot of courage and soul-searching for them to buck the system and stand up for what they know is right. Those are the leaders that we need. They, along with Senator Obama can make the kinds of changes that will rebalance the power in America. We need people who care about our country more than they care about their pocketbooks. We need people who love and respect their neighbors, people who are willing to go to bat for all Americans, not just the few who sit on the top of the corporate heap sucking this country dry.

The "October Surprise" is quickly emerging this morning. Some of the wealthiest Americans are going to come out of the woodwork and tell us that without the Republicans at the helm, they predict a depression.

Well my fellow Americans (as your hero McCain likes to say), they already have brought us to the brink of disaster. We are going to have to scramble like crazy if we are going to pull us out of this before we find ourselves without some of the most basic things that we take for granted. And Senator Obama and his new administration are our best hope for that. Certainly not more of the same greedy people in Washington or the pharmacutical companies running us, the insurance companies running us, the oil companies running us and the greedy wall street guys manipulating the market.

Well my fellow Americans (as your hero McCain likes to say)

and dont forget, we're his friend too ... **shudder**

i have been thinking all along that if Obama is elected, there will be one or more attempts on his life. yes, there are just that many stupid, closed minded, red neck, white trash (of every color) people out in the world.

the McCain campaign 'rallies' from what i've heard only add fuel the fire.

i really hope i'm wrong... but i'd feel much more comfortable with Biden as my President than if McCain keels over Palin taking charge.

Neither one is a good choice, but NObama is downright horrid. Nothing good will come of having that socialist, terrorist sympathizer in the White House.

I think cultural issues are finally going to take a welcomed back seat at this election. The economy is trumping abortion, taxes, religion and the wars. And as I remember Bush had 80% of the country behind him after 9/11 (and this was after an election the Supreme Court gave to him). He screwed it up and has no one to blame.

Bethfromva

You sure have the talking points down. The problem is no one is listening!

People are trying too hard to NOT see what is out there. And if you question him or say you won't vote for him, you are labeled a racist. This country is being bullied by people who want to scare others into submission by labeling them bigots and racists. There are few like me who don't care what I am called. PCism is killing us from the inside out.

Nobody is listening because we ALL want change. Nobody can deny that. However, people seem to forget that change doesn't guarantee that it is GOOD change. Change can mean taking away your right to bear arms, your right to free speech, your right to earning money through a capitalist society. And that is where we're going. The sad thing is, BOTH parties are taking us that way -- it's just do you want to go on the slow boat or on a high-speed raceboat?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
