Any December '08 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

I know it seems like December is a ways off but really it's just less then two months away. I finalized my surgery date yesterday for Dec. 5th with Dr. Kuri. So are there any others out there with December dates looking for support and help?

Hello, guess we'll be holiday buddies. :) My surgery date is set for Dec 10th. I am soooo excited. Have you discovered that you find out who your real friends are? Some are already jelous and I haven't even had surgery. I really wish I would've just kept it to my self. Good luck! You are not alone!!!!!!!!

Looks like I have a shot still at joining you. My insurance is approved and the paperwork is headed to the Surgeon, might not be too bad having it before Christmas. Waiting for surgeon to call.

Hello everyone! This is my first day on the site and I'm sooo glad I found all of you! Everytime I read a post it's so amazing to know someone is thinking about all the same stuff I worry about everyday! My surgery date is 12/29 and I'm freaking out! I'm soo excited about starting this process but so scared I won't be able to deal emotionally. What are you all doing to prepare for your surgeries? Any advice to get through the holidays? My 22nd birthday is also Christmas Eve so I feel like it might be really difficult/emotional..but I'm definitely trying to look at the surgery as a gift and an amazing new start to life!

December 31st pending insurance approval! Wish me luck.

I'd love to share the experience with you all. I do not know anyone locally who's had it done.

Since my surgery date was set I feel compelled to eat at every restaurant and every favorite food , like the last supper. I have gained 8 lbs..any one else??

Be careful, gaining weight will make the surgery more difficult for the surgeon, dropping a few pounds before surgery gives them more room to work.

good luck Poodles and all the other December bandsters!

dseig - as for having "the last supper".....yep, I think it is definitely an emotional response to knowing that soon you will have to go without all your favorite foods. I learned in one of my support group meetings that some of us go through the "Kubler-Ross" stages of grief......about food! We actually grieve the loss of our favorite treats....and we go through the stages of denial, anger, grief etc.....and finally acceptance of how things have to be.

Since I got my insurance approval I've been a little out of control food wise too....but with the help of some wonderful folks on these boards and my support group....and the support of a good husband.....I am pulling myself together. As one of you mentioned earlier, it is important to shrink the liver a bit before surgery, so we cannot eat mindlessly and hope for a good outcome. The time to start taking care of ourselves is NOW....today.......and quit playing games with our health.

My date is the 4th and the closer the date gets the more my nerves and taking over. I'm starting to get scared I guess realizing this is going to happen. My insurance sent me a certification letter for review and a week later the approval letter came , so don't get alarmed yours is on the way.

My fingers are crossed for you! Could you cross them for me as well??? My paperwork was faxed off to Anthem BC this Wednesday and I'm so anxious for approval. Was really hoping to hear from someone today as I've read so many posts for people who were approved the next day! I'm praying for a Dec 16th surgery date.

Good luck to us both!!!:rolleyes2:

Fingers crossed!! Any news yet?? I am still waiting. Had to have Scott and White to re-fax :tongue2:. BC/BS said they never got it.. what a pain. So hoping to hear by the end of the week:tongue2:

Great idea to have Christmas a little early!! I am going to be banded Dec 16th. Looking forward to it!! Christmas is certainly my fav. holiday of all time, but being thin is a much bigger priority, so my family is okay with me laying back in a recliner if need be. Hey, you never know...my husband may even cook?! Kim in Colorado

Hello to all! This is my first post on this thread but I am so encouraged by everyone. My surgery is Dec. 5th and I am nervous. Tricare approved everything pretty fast. I am going to be on the pre-op diet for Thanksgiving and sounds like mushies for Christmas. When I started the process in July, it seemed like it was forever; but now it seems like it went by soo fast. WOW!! I am excited, nervous, and anxious all together.

It seems strange to say, or type, but my surgery is scheduled for December 11th. I'm feeling a bit anxious right now. I still want to tell a few more close friends/relatives about the surgery. I don't doubt they will be supportive. I just have a hard time asking people for help. My friends and relatives can't offer me their support if they don't know what I'm going through.

How much time is everyone taking off from work? Initially I took just the Thursday and Friday off from work. I just revised my time off request to include the following Monday/Tuesday.

Best wishes to everyone

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
