Any December '08 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

hi everyone just wanted to join in as i to will be banded dec.15,2008. i have 3wks to go and cant wait.

I would have a harder time if I lived in Buffalo NY, I am addicted to wings at the anchor bar. As webmaster of Columbuswings.com its not hard to see how I got in this situation. I'll have to settle for perhaps 6 wings at a time in the future.

Having read about so many of you doing this, I asked my surgeon about it and he kind of echoed what Pete said that research is vital and that with insurance and American medical costs it is easy to understand why people would do this. His other concern, which prompted my previous question to Pete was the type of band used and to make sure it can be filled back here in the states. He did related a story of a man who got fills in the US and didn't notice any restriction. Turned out the surgeon only put in the fill port and no band at all.

Hi Bill-

I have heard the horror stories from the local surgeon here in Jupiter, Florida about people coming back from Mexico with just the port. The only thing I can say about that is I have only heard that from American Surgeons and have never once heard anyone come out and say it happened to them. On the flip side like I have said it's all about knowing doing the research to make sure you have a repitable surgeon. Even in getting surgery done here in the USA people should still research the surgeon they are going to use and make sure they are getting one who is well experienced and who is a good surgeon. Dr. Kuri only uses the Inamed LapBand which is the same that most surgeons use as most of you already know.

Trust me Bill in that I had my doubts and was very skeptical about going to Mexico before I did my research. I wanted to make sure that the surgeon, their staff, and the facility was as good if not better then what I would get at home here. I believe from the people that I have talked to here on the forum whom have had their surgery done by Dr. Kuri, from talking with my aunt who had her surgery done by him, and from my research online that I will be going to one of Mexico's best. :)

Thanks for understanding the spirit of my question and curiosity, and that I am not criticizing.

Hi Pete,

I am scheduled for surgery next Monday 12/8. I'm so excited. I know I am going to need all the support I can get. I was told that the support groups are a very important key in this life changing process.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
