My incision ended up being about 2 inches below the underwire bra line. Maybe it depends how long your torso is? I am fairly "tall" at 5-7.

My surgeon's office couldn't tell me what my cost would be either. They said the surgery ran between $14,000-$17,000 but that the 10% I paid wouldn't be actually 10% because it would be after their insurance discounts and then could only reach my out-of-pocket amount. I did have to pay a surgeon's upfront fee of $217.

Hope this helps!

~~anne

That sounds more like it, 10%. It should'nt be to much and I'm sure you will be billed for it. And if need be they would probably set up a payment plan for you. I am not wearing a bra home, just a baggy shirt. I have a 2 1/2 hour each way trip to Sacramento for the surgery. I am leaving here early Tuesday morning and staying at my sons house down there. I don't know yet if we will be driving home after the surgery or spending another nite there. Depends on how I feel. I have a preop appt. Tuesday so that is why I am going a day early. I look forward to us all comparing notes afterwards. It is going to be great to compare how we feel and help each other thru each step. Here's to all Oct. 29ners.;) :thumbup:Maggie:shades_smile:

I am taking/wearing a sports bra. But one that hooks not one I have to try and get on over my head.

Can you believe it? Just 5 more days and we should all be back home from surgery (or possibly still at hospital being watched over) but we will probably all be about passed out from taking a dose of pain meds and trying to find a comfortable position to sleep in. LOL Who would of thought that sounded like something to look forward to huh??? My DH says if I am not feeling better by Wednesday morning, he won't take me to the hospital. Well I plan on feeling so much better but, he doesn't know.....I think I would take some Dayquil or something to ease the stuffed & runny at the same time nose and hope to not sneeze or cough until recovery and just have to drive myself there. But I won't have to because I plan on feeling like I was never even sick by then. Getting ready to take Nyquil and head to bed so I can get some extra rest now.

I'm scheduled for the 29th, too. I am on day 3 of the pre-op diet, and I have no energy at all. And I'm just getting over a cold too, CMT!

I guess it's a good thing they require this pre-op diet because up until now my mind has been playing tricks on me. It says "Eat everything in sight, you'll never eat again. "

Worse than that my mind says "I am probably going to be the one person in the world that this band won't work for. I'll go through all this and just lose a few pounds. And I'll still be fat and miserable."

I hope this negativity is just from being low on energy. I really want to go in with a positive attitude.

Altoonasoup, Welcome to the Oct. 29ners. It is the first day of the rest of our lifes. I don't believe I just said that, but it is true. My surgeon only requires two days of Clear Liquids before surgery. At first I thought it was just one and was happy about that. I have been real strict since I found out my date and have lost 7lbs. Next Thursday I hope we will all be on here comparing notes. Maggie:shades_smile:

Ahhhhhhhh. I can breathe through my nose today! Yippee! LOL Thank God. I was beginning to wonder if I was gonna turn the corner. I still think someone needs to figure out how the human body can fit so much "stuff" in the human head that even when you have coughed and blown your nose a hundred-thousand times there is still more stuff in there.....?

Counting today, THREE more days of pre-op diet then ONE day of full liquids with nothing past midnight! Then SURGERY!!!!

Yea Us!

Cindy, Glad to here you are feeling better. I was going to play cards last nite with my daughter and her husband, but she had a little bit of a sore throat, so I stayed away. I don't want to get sick and not have my surgery on the 29th. Hope you feel better everyday. Maggie:shades_smile:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
