Band and 2 hernia repairs

Recommended Posts

My first attempt at surgery was on 9/18/08. They opened my up and closed me up. Apparently, the hyatal hernia was just to big for my doctor to handle alone. That surgery was on Thursday and I went back to work Monday. I got a call on the 29th to see if I could come in for surgery on October 1st, which I did. So I am banded (yeah!!!) I am so very sore. I am not allowed to do much until my diaphram heals more, they say it will be extrememly painful if my stomach slips up past my diaphram again.

Has any one else had this occur or am I the lone ranger? Did the pain ever, ever, ever get better? I am walking, but not every hour. I try not to cough much because the hernia guy said I shouldn't. Basically I am paranoid that the hernia will reoccur.

As for the rest, it is going ok. I am still on liquids and having a hard time getting all my Protein. I did discover those "bullets" though, it makes it much easier.

If anyone has done this I would appreciate knowing your experiences.

Not a similar situation, but wanted to welcome you and say take your pain meds! Just take it easy and I'm sure you'll heal marvelously! :tt2:

hi i was banded on may 1st and i had the same exact problem, but my doc opereated on the that day, they had to cut my somach off of my throat and reattach muscle tissues and move my stomach down from where my throat is to where its supposed to be. And i was basicly all reorganized on the inside. I couldnt walk for about the first 3 weeks just to get up to go to the bathroom. And i would cough because there was flem in me but i couldnt cough hard enough without crying because it hurt so bad. So i had that stuck in me. It took me 4weeks to be able to sleep in my bed normally before that i was in the recliner and it took me 2 months to feel a reduction in the amount of pain..the problem for me was none of my pain meds worked. in the hosp they told me they gave me 90 shots of morphine and i was still in extreme pain. so its now 5 months after my surgery and i have still not done any abdominal excersizes i am still very sore if i bend down too much or carry heavy things so maybe in a few more months.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
