Low Carb Foods

Recommended Posts

I would say to stick with whatever your Dr. said to eat. If you are going to eat any fruits, the lowest ones in Sugars are your berries. (raspberries, rhubarb, lemon and limes in small amounts) I would squeeze lemons in hot Water and drink in the evening prior to going to bed when I was on my pre op diet. I also ate skinless boneless chicken breast and tuna, both low carbs. I hope this helps. Best wishes.

Can you eat fruit on a low carb diet? I was told no bread, Pasta, potatoes, or rice before my surgery and to follow a low carb diet.

What do you think?

hey!

i would agree with what health said and keep with ur doctors instructions, fruits have alot of hidden carbs in them, that u wouldnt think they had. depending on the size there could be up to 28g or carbs in one banana. even certain veggies have alot of carbs in them.

again like health i stuck to lean Proteins...fish, chicken, etc

wish u all the best xx

there is a thread for low carb recipes in the food & recipes section here. It has lots of helpful information.

like the PP have said, fruits are generally high in sugar/carbs. That said, my pre-op diet includes 1 cup of fruit per day (no bananas allowed, as they are super high in sugar).

If you have questions, or your doc was vague...call them back and ask about specific foods.

Thanks everyone! It never occurred to me that the sugar in fruit would be considered real sugar. Does that even make sense? LOL

I will be sticking with my lean Proteins and leafy greens.

If you go to the Medifast website and look at the lean & green "menu"...they have some nice printable pdf's that list green veggies from least carbs to most carbs and another that lists meats from lean to leanest.

I hung them in my kitchen for quick reference!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
