Who Went Home The Same Day As Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I found out yesterday that I will be going home the same day as surgery. I was really taken back by this.

My insurance coverage will pay for me to stay the night but the doctor's office said it wasn't necessary.

I'm just surprised.

Sandra

I had my surgery at 7:00 a.m., was in recovery by 8:30, and was on my way home by 10:00 a.m.

From what I hear, Lap band is standardly done as Out-Patient surgery.

Surgery at noon, 2 hours of recovery and I was on my way home. It was no problem. I have a recliner and my BF got it ready for me when I got home with a heating pad and lamp plugged in nearby and we put my meds and a drink on the end table next to the chair and I was set. You will be fine.

I had surgery @ 1:00 and on my way home by 5:30. I am very glad I did not have to stay, felt good to relax in my own bed.

All doctors are different.

Mine required an over night stay.

Wish that I could have gone home the same day.

I was taken into surgery at 12:45 and was back home in my own bed...80 miles from hospital...by 5:00. I had no problems and was thrilled to be home so soon. I had the surgery on Wed and returned to work the following Monday. I pray you'll do just fine!

I went home the same day after banding. I also went home same day after Tummy Tuck. (that was last week)

It is soooo much easier to rest and get comfortable in your own home and your own bed.

Also there is more risk of infection and contracting other diseases in a hospital, so the less time spent there, the better.

You will be fine, you will LOVE being in your own home when you are feeling uncomfortable and cranky-ish.

i went home a half hour after surgery. I was getting pissed off just sitting there. The nurses said, pee in the cup and your mom can take you home. This surgery is meant to be minor

I also went home same day as surgery. Everything went fine and I was actually more comfortable on my own couch! I even did a three hour drive to get home.. (wasn't driving mind you but where I had the lap band done they only keep you there over night if you have a complication!). So, don't worry about it and good luck.

Ditto everyone's story here. Surgery and released as soon as I used the bathroom (about 1 hour after surgery). I hate hospitals so I was thrilled that I could go home to the comfort of my own bed and couch.

I had surgery at 9:45 and released at 1:30pm. I live 2 hours from the surgery center so I went to my son's house which is only a half hour away. I sleep there for a while before we head home. It was not bad at all.

I wished they would have let me. I had surgery at 6am, was up and aware by 10am, and by about 3pm I was asking to go home. By midnight that night I was BEGGING them to let me go home, I just wanted to be in my bed relaxing (I hate hospitals).

They didn't let me go till noon the next day, but I would have much rather gone home same day.

For my revision surgery, they let me go home as soon as I stopped asking for pain meds (about 3 hours post-op).

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
