Hi!

I am excited to join the group! I am going to be banded October 22nd. It could have been earlier, but I had a mini-vacation planned with my husband the first week of October as he has a business trip in Florida. Now I'm kicking myself because I want the date to be TODAY! lol

For those from Kentucky, I am close to Kentucky and will be banded in Louisville at St. Mary's Hospital with Dr. Lusco. Also, hope you were damage free from the hurricane winds. We had roof damage but were VERY blessed. Our neighbors didn't fair as well.

Now...I just need to figure out how to do all the countdown and sparkly things!

October 29th for me. It is cool they have these month forums for us that are getting banded around the same time.

It is way cool! Oct 29th is my day too!!!

Hey I want one of the cool "smashing pumpkins" banners too. Where did y'all make them?? Can I "borrow" one of yours?

You both did it, good job!!! The black "Smashing Pumpkins" flag was a tad morose for me so I thought a little sparkle could do a girl good! :-D Plus there are a bajillion fonts to personalize with!

I agree. It was fun playing with the fonts. I was going to do orange background and black letters, but it was harder to read... plus too much orange. I only like orange with marroon... (Va Tech colors)

It's been a long road for me though. I've done doctors' diets, their diet pills, several diet pills, hypnotherapy, Weight Watchers, etc... and haven't had substantial luck with any of them over the last 5 years. It's been documented for quite a while that I needed to lose weight to help lower my cholesterol and to help my back, but I think it really took me gaining what I did before hand to really get them to go, hmmm, okay -- we'll approve her. I had doctors tell me if I wasn't dieting, I would easily be 100 pounds heavier than I already am! *GULP!*

I was with my doctor/surgeon for 6 months, even more actually, weighing in on his scale once a week so they could track my weight too. It's not been something I walked right into getting an approval. So I'm not saying it's easy to get the approval fast, but I think if you've got groundwork done before you submit, your insurance won't be a pill to deal with.

I sent in copies of my weight watchers weigh in cards, doctors records of my cholesterol problem (for more than 5 years), chiropractic records, etc. along with the surgeons records so they could see I just didn't get fat all of a sudden. I was ready to send food logs and personal trainer logs too... I've paid a lot out of my pocket to try to get my weight off, and it's about time they give me a break and help me out a bit!

I think it also helps that my dad had GB with the same insurance 5 years ago and my sister is about to submit paperwork for herself too. Hopefully they see it as I see it - preventative medicine is cheaper than waiting too long and having serious medical problems.

I just know that my kids need me around and I can't go on being a big girl the rest of my life. My new birthday - even though my real one was last Friday, is going to be October 21. It's the day I marry my new life with my stomach ring and be reborn as a person who can really live life!:smile2:

SnowWhite - my surgeon's office was very organized; I had no trouble with my insurance company.

Bridgette - are you a graduate of Va Tech? I am so sorry about what happened there. One of my gf's from UT (Tennessee) was cousins with the professor that was killed. It was very surreal; even having never been there.

And to now pick up the mood and kid a bit - orange only goes with WHITE!!! ;-)

I am having my surgery at St Mary's also with that same group. Dr Shuster is doing my procedure. We were lucky with the storm and did not loss electric or any trees, but about everyone we know did loss electric and had damage.

Yes, I did graduate from VT. It was very tragic! And regarding your orange/white combination, I knew you'd say that, LOL. That's ok.... just don't tell DH I said so! He was at the bowl game where you guys destroyed us and he now hates "Rocky Top"... LOL I sing it to him when he's irritating me.

Hey everyone. I am so excited to join the group! How do I get the smashing pumpkin flag? Also, how do I get my picture to appear beneath my name? (Not in the signature but out to the side)

Thanks!

OMG that is HYSTERICAL!!!!!!! The phenomenon of "Rocky Top" is so amusing to me. Volunteers all love it and everyone else hates it! I can't tell you 2 other college's songs but everyone knows "Rocky Top"! ::humming:: Rocky Top, you'll always beeeee.....home sweet home to meeeeeeee. Just be glad you can't hear me sing!

So, you are from Geogia and not a UGA fan? Isn't that like treason or something? I live close to UK, U of L, and IU so I root for whoever is playing locally. The only thing I know about the Vols is that Dave Ramsey is a big fan!

Happy Friday everyone! I went to see a movie tonight that was a definite time/money waster--"Burn After Reading". A couple of mildly amusing moments but that was it. I was depressed at the end. I did enjoy some movie popcorn as I understand it can be difficult to eat popcorn post-band. It is something I can do without.

I didn't know that Dave Ramsey was a Vols fan - very cool!!!

Thanks for the movie review. A gf at work said that "The Women" was disappointing so there's another movie not to spend money on.

Lastly, I am not from Georgia, Miss Anne, I merely reside there! My blood will always run orange! Now to be serious - the second largest population of Vols are in the Atlanta area (closest "big" city, I presume).

I lived in Evansville longggggg ago. Does that give me any Hoosier "cred"? ha

One of my sons lives in Georgia...Ft. Stewart. Surprisingly, he's not into football...he played it but doesn't watch it. I'm probably the #1 sports fan in my family out of the four kids and dh and me.

Evansville is AWFULLY close to Kentucky! My bff lives on the Kentucky side further out in the country. She is a Tennessee Titans fan--BIG time.

When is your team playing this weekend? U of L played Wednesday (Kansas State) and surprisingly won. I think UK is off this weekend. IU is playing Ball State this weekend where my oldest son's girlfriend attends school...so I'm guessing she's not rooting for IU!

Right now, golf is the big topic of conversation in sports locally. The Ryder Cup is in Louisville, KY. The US team is beating the Europeans after day 1! (The US has lost like the last 17 years or something) Go USA!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
