Hi All!

I was banded on the 22nd, and am down 21 pounds so far!!! Still in some pain from the gas settling in my chest, and I have a deep bruise from the anesthesiologist giving me a sternal rub to wake me up. It doesn't matter though, I would go through it again in a heartbeat!!!

Thanks for all the support and kind words,

Sloane

Just got banded today (29th)! I'm in the BAND3035 study and don't have any co-morbidities so I'm doing pretty well so far post-op. No nausea or gas. Just abdominal tenderness (especially when I cough), a mild sore throat, and serious dry mouth (which is easily remedied). As far as food goes, I've had Gatorade, Propel (vitamin water), Crystal Light, and Soup broths... and I've been pretty satisfied with that! I'm really looking forward to the future with this wonderful tool! I'm aiming to lose 75 lbs... hopefully by this time next year. I'm currently 206 at 5'5". Say, how long did the rest of you have to stay on Clear Liquids post-op? I THINK I was told only for the first day, then I could move on to full liquids, then to mushies for the rest of the week. I just don't remember how long on clear and how long on full liquids.

Amen Sister!

I don't think I can do this for 5 weeks. I don't even want to eat because I am so sick of liquids,

Penny,

I know how you feel! There is a post which has recipies, I only have to do liquids for 3 weeks and I had to go to the receipe list! You can do it, but you have to be creative!:)

Thanks for the recipes.< /p>

I am not ungrateful. But, I am very discouraged. I am losing this battle. I keep taking little bites of food I am preparing for my Daughter. I make sure they are tiny and chew them up very well. But, I KNOW it is too soon to be eating anything.

I am definitely going to eat cottage cheese and eggs on week 3. I don't care what my Doctor's post-op diet says. The Bariatric Coordinator did say that I could try.

HELP!

This stabbing pain in my left shoulder didn't start until 24 hours postop. Any advice, heat or cold? How long did this last for you. When I had my tubal ligation it was really bad, but started on the first day.

HELP!

it's air/gas trapped under your diaphragm pushing up. You feel it in your shoulder.

Try some Gas-X. The strips worked for me. I had lots of gas.

Walk and use a heating pad...it will pass soon by the end of the week you'll be zippin around.

Penny you've lost 44 lbs, so you are NOT losing this battle. Keep your chin up your doing great. If you have to eat the mushies early then just remember to go easy and take very small bites. Don't beat yourself up just remember this is for the long haul, it's not a diet.

Well the Smashing Pumpkins are all banded! Has this seemed like the longest month or what!

I am thinking of those that have been banded in the last day or two. My thoughts are with you! I am starting to go back through the earlier posts to see what everyone else posted a few days after their surgery. The boards have gotten quiet now with everyone working on getting used to their new banded way of life. We had a Halloween party at our house tonight for my jr. high boys. 25 jr. high kids and lots of unhealthy food. I was kinda feeling sorry for myself not being able to eat candy and the Snacks I made, but after it is all said and done and almost cleaned up I am glad I couldn't eat all that stuff. If I could have and would have I would be feeling crappy about myself now.

There is a part of my that is just realizing what I have done. I can't believe I made the decision and it is over...or just beginning, depending on how you look at things. I don't regret it. I just can't believe I have the band, this wonderful tool that can make me a healthier person.

I can't eat an entire serving of Jello in one sitting. I am trying to get in a few protien drinks to help my healing. Getting over 250 calories would be alot for me right now compared to what I am getting. I guess that is normal.

I took some Miralax. I am paranoid about becoming constipated or getting an ileus and ending up in the hospital that I work at when I have tried so hard not to let anyone find out about my decision. I know every day I will feel better as the gas pains subside and my incisions heal. Now my new date to look at is November 25...my first fill. It's hard to believe that I have that date already when I haven't yet adjusted to having the band. It is hard to bond when you are in pain....even a wee bit of pain.

So to all of us that are on a journey that started with an October Odyssey...here's looking at you. I hope we can continue to be a support system for each other. We all have a very long road ahead of us. But now when I see the light at the end of the tunnel I don't necessarily think it might be another train.

Hi, I'm 3 days out. Still have pain from the gas and its seriously not funny anymore :smile2: I also have a feeling like indigestion sitting in the middle of my chest, whether I eat or not.

My pain was in both shoulder blades, my spine, along either shoulder going up my neck to behind my ear. Mostly its just cut back to the occasional shoulder blade, but it can still get pretty bad.

I'm on liquids, having custards or yoghurts which are thinned down with milk, Optifast and I've just gotten myself some clear cup-a-soups and sustegen, which helps give you all the vits and mins you need in a balanced drink. I got it so I don't have to just have the optifast all the time.

I've done some cleaning around the house, taking things slowly and today went out to do a little shopping. I just want the pain gone now so I can start to feel OK again.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
