I am not banded yet, but I was wondering.... Can you puree just about anything for mushies? Is there anything that you tried to puree that was just awful? I would love to know some of your experiences.

Great question!!! I was just thinking about starting a thread asking "what is a list of highly recommended pureed foods and what pureed foods are not recommended at all?" You are on point. It'll be interesting to see the responses. :Banane34:

Well it wasn't for a band, but when I was a kid I had my mouth wired shut for a few weeks once and my mom took great care of me. Cheese ravioli worked well, spaghetti without meat in the sauce, potato soup, milkshakes with a big scoop of peanut butter for protein. She missed a couple times though and tried pizza and a cheeseburger in the blender, I don't recommend either one

I am currently ending my 2 weeks of mushies. I do not recommend carbs. Carbs = Bad!! You obviously need some, but pureeing Pasta is not a nutritionally sound choice. Stick with veggies, Protein and your Protein shakes.

I tried to puree chicken, and I just couldn't eat it. I marinaded it, cooked it, pureed it--and while it was really something that I would have happily chewed. It was ICK!

My favorite foods have included:

**Pureed refried beans--I eat them with thin taco sauce

**sugar free pumpkin pie--I found it somewhere on here. 15oz can of pumpkin, 1 can of skim evap. milk, 2 beaten eggs, 1 cup of splenda, 1.5 tsp of cinnamon. Pop it in a pie tin, bake at 350 for 45 min. YUM!

**Pureed cauliflower. Boil it, add some milk or light sour cream, puree the crap out of it. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Just remember that pureeing intensifies flavors, so things will taste more salty or garlicy. . . .

I saw a post on this site that recommended canned chicken and tostitos brand spinach dip pureed together for a chicken salad..I liked it. I also blended the refried Beans with queso or salsa and blended chili was also very satisfing the beans and meat are great choices for Protein (Bush's chile is pretty good).

Think baby food. Anything you would puree for a baby to eat, you can do for yourself. You wouldn't be pureeing pizza and cheeseburgers to feed them properly would you? :thumbup:

My nutritionist recommended buying or making a chicken salad you like to puree and Wendy's chili pureed is good. I will try both when I'm at that stage. Although I must say the thought of pureed chicken sounds disgusting...but after eating food on the Medifast diet (2 wk pre opt diet), pureed chicken doesn't sound all that bad. That food is SICK!!!

My apologies, I don't think I was clear enough that my post about the pizza and cheeseburger was sarcastic. I was horrified when my mom thought I would actually want to drink those pureed, even though I was a teenager and losing weight wasn't my objective. The suggestions I made were things that worked pureed and things that most definitely didn't work, not neccessarily things that were the best choices for the band, my need to drink my meals was for a different reason :eek:

Nonono! I caught the humor behind it. I was just using your example as an example as well. :cool2:

I took myself back to the days where I was introducing food to my son (who is now 10) and remembered how delicious his meals were. Combinations like carrot and parsnip, potato and chard, sweet potato and spinach came to mind. For the sweet side of things there was pureed peaches, bananas, apples and so on.

And just like with babies progressing onto chunkier foods when they have all their teeth, you introduce things like chicken, turkey, tuna, etc.

Anything I wouldn't consider mushing up and feeding to my youngster, I wouldn't mush up for myself. That's the point I was trying to make. :eek:

I have to admit the refried beans sound pretty good even now. I will keep that in mind for something with some flavor to it.

I haven't done the pre-op diet yet (my diet is liquid only), but I figure by then, pureed chicken will sound good to me too.

What is better to use, a blender or food processor to puree the food? I have used both for other things but never to actually puree anything.
