Can you drink Tea or Coffee after banding?

Recommended Posts

I am getting banded on Tuesday 26th. I always enjoy a diet coke as a treat when the kids go to bed, so now I am looking for a substitude so I still feel like I am having something special when I sit down at the end of the day. Also that is the time of day I am usually hungry so that drink takes the edge off (although I hoping I wont feel hungry when I have the band).

I was thinking of getting a nice coffee machine, but I think I read comewhere that you cannot have coffee.

What about tea?

Is milk considered a food? Can you have some milk in your tea?

I depends on who you ask. My surgeon said no caffeine(sp?) after surgery, but my nutritionist said it was ok to have 1 cup of tea or coffee a day. My understanding is that caffeine is a stimulant and can make you hungry. Also, caffeine can irritate your stomach which is not good for you. Try Decaf, you may like it, and it won't have any adverse affects.

Hey - I have no restrictions on caffeine at all. (As a matter of fact, for both my pre-op AND post-op diet, it was specifically listed as one of the Clear Liquids I was allowed to have.) I can have coffee, tea, whatever. NO soda at all though. As a matter of fact, I hate 1% milk and I am supposed to have 4 glasses of milk a day. So one of my glasses actually gets frothed up with some Splenda and put into my espresso! Coffee fix and milk requirement in one glass! But I guess it just depends on your doctor.

I used to drink alot of Coke, I think that was my biggest downfall, however when the Surgeon said...If you dont stop drinking it I wont do the surgery...I stopped cold turkey.

In replacement I am having diet cordial and occasionally I will have a luke warm Milo with mimimal heaps so everything dissolves. I dont drink Tea or coffee at all.

It is always best to ask your doc...the 'rules' are variable.

Milk is a source of Vitamins etc, but obviously the fat content should be considered. Is it one cup of coffee with a tablespoon of heavy cream, or 1/4 cup of cream plus all kinds of sprinkles, toppings etc? In this case it isn't the coffee that is the real issue, it is all of the additions!

For my doc, there is no restriction on tea/coffee. As I drink my coffee black, no sugar, no froth/sprinkles/flavours etc, it's fine.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
