Did your doc give you liquid hydrocodone for the pain? Mine did. Also, try gas-x strips for the gas pain. If the port pain is too much, call your doc for permission to take more of the liquid hydrocodone. I was on 2 tsp every 4-6 hours and thought I was going to die of pain. I called the doc and he said take 2 Tbsp instead and it was much much better. Good luck!

Here is a trick I learned in the ER after I had my band about a week and went to the ER because the pain was so bad I thought it was a blood clot in my lung. Get down on all fours...CAREFULLY IF NEWLY BANDED....low head and chest down to floor, use a pillow to support stomach, leave butt up in the air. The gas works it way out. I still do this to this day if I get all gassed up. It still works...good luck

I am 5 days post-op and am still feeling the gas, myself. I don't have any magic to share. I think walking worked best for me. I've been off my meds since day 2 because it made me nauseas...so I've just been grinning through it. This too shall pass...HAHAHA.:)

The best tip that was given to me was by my surgeons nurse. She told me to lie on my left side with left leg straight and right leg over a pillow . she told me to then bring up my right leg up toward my stomach. It was the best advise I ever got. Within a few minutes the gas started passing. I too suffered really bad with gas. This helped me a LOT.

I too had my surgery on the 8th and have horrible gas pains as well. I now the doctor and everyone else is right when they say walking helps, but I tend to feel most comfortable laying down (switching sides) the gas seems to pass but as soon as i get up it seems to build up again...urgg..I think my main problem now is not knowing if the pressure is a full feeling or gas?

i had really really bad gas from the instant Breakfast and finally realized i had some lactose intolerance happening -- i had never drank that much milk before and didn't realize i had it.

i called the nutritionist in my surgeon's office and she let me start some soft foods early, like eggs, to get my Protein in. if you think you might have the same problem, maybe call them?

good luck. the pain does go away!

Hi Sue. I think our age does have something to do with recovery, I noticed the younger gals seems to snap back a lot faster. I also think it depends on how much gas you have. I got it real bad in my shoulder and back.I am now 6 weeks post op and I am 100%. I still am a tiny bit sore in my port side if I lean over a lot , like when I weeded last week. Paid for that with being sore for a while. I have lost 16.5 pounds and go for my first fill Thursday. I am looking forward to it as I have no restriction. I am sticking to 800-1000 calories a day through will power, It will be nice to have the help of the band. Hang in there it will get much better.

Hi Peaches ...

I, too, had surgery on 08/08/08 ... a very lucky day!!! ... I've had gas pains also, but they have gotten so much better as the days go by ... I've talked to others who have said day 2 and 3 are the worst ... as for the walking, I walked 4 miles yesterday and that didn't seem to help the pains, I just felt the tightness in my abdomen ... congrats! ... we are also about a month apart in our birthdays!!! ...

I was banded this morn. at 9:30 and home by 2ish.

It is 3:30 in the morning and I want to cry, but it hurts too much.

My back (under my angel wings), and my chest. My tummy!!!

What have I done?

I did a full Tummy Tuck with muscle repair a few years ago and don't remember this kind of pain.

My husband works tomorrow and I will be caring for my very active 3 yr old son. I was told this was easy, just some discomfort, so this pain is a bit of a surprise.

Doc said not to take too much pain meds, because walking is way better and meds will make you sleep.

Need some cheering up words.

Thanks

Just my 2 cents:

After my surgery I had terrible gas pains, I even had gas behind my neck....And Old wifes tale, my mom told me that Ginger Tea would help. I bouth some at the chinese store and I drank my tea every 2 hours....

The gas dissapear in 2 days....Also, try going up stairs slowly and walking.

I hope you feel better,

Regards

Vicky

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
