Hi all,

I'm new and my surgery date is 08/14. I'm starting to wonder about excess skin after I lose this 100 pounds I'm working on. I've heard of people having a real problem with that, but I think most of them had the gastric bypass, rather than the lapband. Has anyone had any problems with excess skin? Have any of you heard about anything that could help with the skin other than surgery, maybe exercises or creams while I'm losing the weight? Any information you could give would be very appreciated. Or if most of you haven't had any problems, that would be great to hear also. Thanks for the info.

Hi Hopeful!

I was banded at the end of Dec, and as of today have lost 101 pounds, I started exercising as soon as I felt able to. I also do a dry skin brushing program that you can find out about on the website www.ttapp.com, that is the exercise program that I am doing also, I don't really have excess skin, that hangs, I do have some more wrinklely skin on my upper arms and belly and inside thighs, but not like I was expecting. I really believe the exercise and brushing helps. I also take my Vitamins, Biotin, zinc and vit e, and alfalfa for my skin. Good luck!!

good luck on your surgery. I'm down about 60 pounds with 40 more to go. I have not had the loose skin as I drink a ton of Water, and exercise hard 5-6 days a week. I think the excerise does the best at avoiding loose skin. My arms are muscle and fine, my legs are toned from the gym and stairmaster.

try the excerise as soon as you can. I think I started walking the week after.

p.s. before surgery I could not get off the ground if I was sitting. I also did not walk even to the mail box, my knees were so bad.

today and I can walk 5 miles and bike 1 hour.

I'm actually going to scottland for a mild bike tour next year.

good luck

and remember the band is a tool, not a cure.

I've lost 100 lb.

I guess you wouldnt say I have "excess skin" but I'm not as firm as you would expect someone with a BMI of 22 who runs for an hour five days a week to be. I have more flesh than I should have at this weight. But I dont have skin hanging that needs surgical removal.

What does worry me though is that in another 10 years, it may really be hanging, lol. I guess I would have some surgery if that were the case.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
