Last supper?

Recommended Posts

I was telling DH that I'd like a last supper the night before surgery. I don't want anything fancy - just fried chicken and loads of it!

Anyone else planning on a last big meal just before surgery? I've been pretty good with my pre-op diet, and have lost 5kgs (11 pounds) since I started it 2 and a half weeks ago, so have decided that I'm going to have that last 'naughty' meal my lb surgeon said he'd turn a blind eye to.

Only 3 days before surgery for me, so this Thursday night, it'll be fried chicken, fries with gravy and coke at my house for dinner!

yikes!i would DEFINITELY not do that! My dr. showed us a bunch of different pictures... one of them was of a woman who had a big meal 3 days before her surgery and her liver was still bigger! I think the problem with it really being bigger is bruising a bleeding while they are trying to hold the liver up... its just not worth it to me... if i were you, i would have fried chicken now, when you still have a couple weeks (or week) to re-shrink it...

It's okay ichatter, I've changed my mind since then!

It's because my boss has given me the day before surgery off too now, and my parents are taking me to a Korean restaurant for a barbeque and steam boat lunch (my normal meal of the day) and that's going to be my farewell meal, so to speak.

It's nice because it's a low fat, low carb option, but fancy enough to be a bit celebratory!

I think that is a much better choice!!

My last celebratory 'meal' was tonight for my birthday from now on I will be better behaved and will stick the the pre op when I start it on the 10th (a few days early but i wanted to start on a weekend)!

I understand the last supper thing, but the day before is not a good time for it. My surgeon is only asking for 1 day of liquids, but the lst is is to get everything out of your system. You don't want to get put under, loose control of your muscles and poop everywhere. I had a different type of surgery while pregnant and they could not put me under because of the babies, and it was not a fun feeling hearing the doctor yelling to get someone to clean it up. Maybe you could push the last supper back to the day before the last day. I am planning on doing a pero-op of a few days just because of my previous experience.

I'm headed out with my friends tonight to have a meal, I just got done a two mile run/walk on the treadmill and did liquids all day. We usually go for a walk after, maybe through the mall, but a walk none the less:) I am craving a burger(no bun) and fries with hot sauce, so that might be it...The good thing is that with my weight loss, 17lbs so far, I can't eat as much...I have to go on Clear Liquids at midnight and all day Thursday, so I thought this would be good timing. I'm going to splurge, but the splurging now compared to before is MUCH less. Tomorrow I'm going to keep doing what I have been doing to lose the 17 lbs and keep busy Thursday and Friday is the big day!!!!

I've also thought about the "last supper concept" My surgeon does not require any pre op diet at all !!! Since I am scared about the larger liver being a risk during surgery, I will severly reduce my food intake 10 days before my date and reduce to liquids 2 days before.. Soooo, I will have a big steak on August 5th...

We did fried chicken last night in the end, and I actually couldn't eat much and felt sick as a dog right after! It's put me right off it now! Lol!

My surgery isn't until 4pm Fri so I have been told I'm to have liquids only from 4pm Thurs. So I will go to lunch with my parents on Thursday but will monitor what I eat. :wink2:

I went to the beach this past weekend tried my best not to do a carb overload since I have been good. I did a buffalo chicken salad with dressing on the side one night and a grilled chicken wrap the next night. I was dying for a piece of cheesecake but I resisted. Don't know what I am having tomorrow night since that is my last "chewing" meal for a while.

I have 10 days and I am on a strict self-imposed diet. I do think I will get a lobster this weekend and use "light" butter LOL. It's a yearly treat.

I will not have fried clams have to be a good girl for that even though I love them.

Maybe a cup of Clam Chowder

Then back on the diet for the rest of the time till surgery.

I go on the liquid diet this coming Monday :/ hehe. I'm going to Red Lobster with my parents on Sunday night. I don't plan on splurging during the 2 weeks I'm on liquids though. 2 weeks should definitely be long enough for my liver to shrink!

New England Clam Chowder, yes it is awesome...my Mom made the best clam chowder, it wasn't thick with flour, just the clams, onions, potatoes and cream with a bit of salt pork rendered to cook the potatos and onions in. Some salt, pepper, a dash of tobasco, and and a pat of butter, and it was so yummy.

Lobster,is on my hospital list of approved Protein LOL. Just not the butter I love to dip it in. With a tad of low cal, low fat mayo cold it makes a lovely lobster salad.

Hi all- Well my surgery date is 8/13 and i'm trying to eat better but, still can't rule out sweets. I dropped the soda and switched to ice tea w/ sweetner. I'm not on a pre-op liquid diet and have still been eating the same. I wouldnt need this surgery if i could control myself but, my hope is that by having this surgery i will learn how to enjoy in small moderations. Any realist out there that haven't really started to change their eating habits>? I just know this surgery is major and enjoy awhile i can or in my case for the next 2 weeks!! Bring on the Weight Watcher Fudge Bars. .

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
