1st Fill July 29 - Any Advice?

Recommended Posts

Hello All-

I was banded June 27th and my first fill is next Tuesday. I am a teacher and needed to get it in before I go back to school.

Has anyone GAINED weight once they went on to regular food? I lost 21 the 1st three weeks and this week have gained 2 lbs. I am frequently hungry 1-2 hours after eating and my tummy grumles a lot. My doc said it was time for a fill to help with the hunger coming so quickly.

In any case, the place I'm going for a fill does the x-ray and barium swallow, so I feel pretty good about that. My surgical sites are still a little tender, though, (I'm a red head, what can I say) and I am worried the fill is going to hurt.

Advice anyone??

Thanks.

My first fill was easy. And yes, I gained weight after I started eating regular food. I still can eat about anything and can't wait for my 2nd fill next week.

don't go in with a full stomache, be ready to drink alot of h2o to help guage the tightness of the fill. so be thirsty. try to stay on Clear Liquids for the next day or 2 to avoid productive burps or painful tightness while your stomache acclimates.

:smile2:

banded 9/07

45 down- slow loser, but ok with that

My dr does local anesthesia, so it doesn't really hurt at all. It's a little odd feeling, but not painful. And even after my first two fills, I was still getting hungry an hour or two after I would eat. Just be prepared for it to take a few fills for you to feel restriction.

I had my first fill a couple a days ago (2cc). Amazed how fast and painless it is....does anyone follow the 7days of full liquids afterwards? I tried for two days, I just have a protien shake in the morning and soft protiens and vegies lunch and dinner. Not much restriction I just eat small portions

Here's my story on my first fill. Unfortunately, it was a very bad experience.

I was banded on 6/27 and was scheduled to have the fill next week but I'll be on vacation so I asked to bump it up a week. I think that was a mistake!

The nurse practitioner did the procedure. My assumption is she's done many but definately had problems with me. Why I don't know.

They had me stand up to find the port and her pushing on my stomach really hurt. She found the port with her fingers but the problems began when she couldn't find the port with the needle. The first poke hurt and the digging around definately added to pain. The bottom line is she missed the port and had to do it again. She pulled out the needle and and Fluid began leaking out from the hole. Mostly clear with with a hint of pink. Gross! After the second stick and my squirming in pain she had the doctor come in and they decided they couldn't do the fill because of the Fluid around the port. :smile2:

How disappointed I was. Has anyone else experience this? They didn't even offer to numb the area.

It was so bad I don't even want to go back. This was my experience. I'm sure your's will be fine. My advice is to numb the area.

Its not anymore pain then just having a blood test. Be glad your doc does the BS and xray, mine doesn't and I'm so hungry with very little will power. My doc will only put in 1.5 cc which is not much at all. Advice to you - count your many blessings? Its a piece of cake. Ooops.

I was banded on June 17th, 08 and scheduled for my first fill on the 29th as well. I also work for a school district and wanted to get started before school begins.

I lost very well the first 3 weeks post-op, stayed the same for 2 weeks and now have found I have gained about 4 lbs. back! It terrifies me. I haven't found one thing I cant eat. I also feel like eating way sooner than what I should, thus, I generally do!

I am so hopeful that this first fill gets me back on track to some gradual loss. I know what they all say about 4 or 5 fills to get the restriction. "I just want it now"!

Good luck on Tuesday, I will be thinking of you. Kerry:thumbup:

I got banded on July 18, 2008 so am only 8 days post-op. Still experience a little soreness around the port incision and having a tough time getting my energy level back to normal. All in all I have to say that it has not been too bad so far. Trying to get enough Protein in each day is my biggest challenge and I am NEVER hungry. It's amazing! Won't be going in for a fill until August 23. I think I will be ready by then?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
