When will I be able to sleep on my side and/or tummy?

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I'm 5 days post-op and wondering when people were able to sleep on their side or tummy? I'm having trouble getting a good nights sleep only being able to sleep on my back because I usually sleep on my side and then tummy.

I was banded last Thursday, not a problem sleeping on my side - either one, but my port is on the right. I use a pillow under my tummy.

I was banded on June 30th and I know what you mean about not getting comfortable enough to get a good night's sleep. I have been doing better, but I am use to sleeping on my tummy mostly.

I have been using pillows to support me from putting too much pressure on my incisions and so I am able to sleep better on either side and somewhat on my stomach if I position the pillows just right. But it makes turning a little harder and I don't like the way it feels when that port incision get tugged on.

So, like you, I can't wait to be able to sleep on my stomach again.

Good luck.

Stephanie

Last night was the first time I was able to really fall asleep my normal way, on my left side, where my port happens to be. I am so happy this has finally happened. 8 days after surgery.

First 2 nights I fell asleep on my right side, kind of, with a body pillow supporting my left side - made me feel like I was on my stomach. On the third night, I started out that way but woke up flat on my stomach with my port area pressed into the mattress. I had some pain when I moved but not too much. I have been sleeping on my stomach every night since then. It's tender, but once I get settled, it hasn't bothered me at all. I've slept on my stomach my whole life and I did this even with a full incision hysterectomy, so I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to sleep any other way.

The body pillow did help though....

Hi,

I had my band on 6-30-08. I slept in recliner for 1st 6-7nights. Then went to my bed. I usually only sleep on sides, but have a big pillow to support my incsion areas. I feel really good to day. Had my first green Beans for lunch with my cottage cheese. Woo, I will start a few more foods to chew this weekend, I'm going slow, cuz I really don't want any problems. I'm still drinking my Protein shakes.

Good LUck

I am 2 days post op, and I am a stomach sleeper. I have been sleeping on my right side with a lil soft pillow on my right side since surgery and it doesn't bother me.

I was banded on 6/10/08, and I still can not sleep on my tummy. I've always been a belly sleeper, and even laying on my side proped up with pillows has been too painful for me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
